To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

I have been moved forward by the CSM on more than one occasion.

:) nice one! Of course it's up to the CSM on the day, but the general rule of thumb is they are unable to unless there is a reason for the move. I am glad you have been lucky multiple times! :)

My very limited experience with onboard op-up leads me to believe the CSM do have the authority. For example, on the last A380 SIN-MEL flight I was already sitting in Y sipping J champagne when the CSM invited me upstairs to emerald city. Another time on a very empty domestic flight the IFE didn't work well in my seat (not the first time it happened), usually moved to another Y seat, this time moved to J. I saw a lady once sitting in 4B next to her friend joking with the CSM she got the bad seat and he moved her two rows further up. I have more examples but you get it by now, the CSM can easily justify an op-up. If there's a will, there is a way :)

Wow, very lucky :) it's great to see that you have been well looked after. The CSM has the authority to do a lot of things, including op-ups, but generally an op-up based solely on one's frequent flyer status wouldn't/shouldn't happen. If there was an issue with another customer who had to be moved, and the only spare
seats were in a 'higher' cabin, then it would be appropriate to move the top tier FF to the higher cabin and use their vacant seat for the other passenger. :)

I do hope you enjoyed emerald city :)

Endured an hour plus delay on an AA CRJ in ~40C heat (we'd boarded then they announced the mx issue) flying FAT-LAX for 10 SC's.... but those 10 SC's got me to 3600 to requal for 3rd year of P1 (oh the irony).

I find it very interesting the differing levels of service/recognition being described. Interesting not envy or jealousy on my part. Clearly value metrics etc come into it and all that kind of stuff.

I am actually planing to ask a favour of the SST team in a few weeks (my NB sister is flying QF93 in Y - she upped and did a ASA award without telling me lol).. I've put in an upgrade request for her using my points etc so hopefully she gets a surprise in Y+ or J (she's never flown anything above Y) but that's not the request. I'm hoping for a little message on her boarding pass etc. I'm sure they can do that :) Anyway I almost never have reason to talk to the SST so hopefully they can work with me on this tiny request. I was thinking to ask if maybe a lounge pass for J or F(yeah I know, dreaming) for her in MEL, but I dunno about that. I can't find an excuse/flight to fly at that same time to take her in myself). Anyway for once i'm going to try to take up the P1 team on the "special requests" part of the promise and see how it goes :)

re my own experiences - I've had a big lack of shadows, but it's hard in an 12 seat J cabin on those 737's so well I can handle that though I always hope ! :D points upgrades 100% success as with others, which is really lovely. no op ups, but as I say I'm usually in J anyway domestic so they can't op up me out of that :)

See what the next year of P1 brings. I didn't think I'd make it this year, but am happy to (with 2 months to spare) and I actually have nothing booked till October (!!!).

interested to see another mention of a double SC offer to a P1. So it seems not an isolated case. Hey QFF, I wouldn't say no - but for my next membership year. I'm happy to stick on 3600 this year :D

Did I miss a report? I've seen only one. Are there others?
[Certainly have not had a suspicion of one myself, alas.:)]

yes, cove up in #1677 (previous page to this) mentioned one, and there was another member had one - or mentioned it - a few weeks back. (I don't have time to scroll back to try and located it though and I can't obviously find with a search)

---
My concern from posts of late and my own experience is when WPs have been offered something extra but P1s miss out. That is when I get frustrated. Is there a system problem which then actually devalues the P1 experience? If it happens again to me I'll ask the CSM (maybe the others are actually CLs?) or maybe it is a problem the crew can't see a P1. No harm in asking and getting a straight answer from the CSM at the time.

In the last 2 months, on 4 QFi flights no CSM greeting when WPs were being greeted/offered headsets etc. So last flight I thought I will check with ask the CSM. She told me that I didn’t come up on her list. Then she checked on the iPad and on that she could see my WP1 status. She said that there are two lists that the crew has and the list that she normally refers to didn’t show my status. Usual, we will follow up and must be system issue, etc.. Since then I dropped a quick line to SST as well just in case there is indeed a system issue and they could look into this as well. As per SST there is nothing wrong with the system and my status (also other WP1s status) appears as it should. No explanation on why mine and other WP1 experience is different and why would the CSM tell me that the list didn’t show my status?

I have left it at that. To be honest I wasn’t expecting any different response from SST.

I am a teetotaler so J Wine or Champagne doesn’t mean anything for me. However, I am in the camp of those who do like to be recognized for the Business they give to QF.

There was a period of about 2-3 years that QF had really lifted up their game and the service, though still inconsistent at times, but overall was very positive experience. However, in the last 12 months I have had way more negative experience then positives. Hopefully someone somewhere is watching and get the team to pull their socks up a bit!

Last year my mum was flying Y+ to JFK and I had requested SST to put in the system that she is 70 years and may need some assistance. On checkin, her Boarding pass had a note "Mother of Plat One Member", but no Lounge Access for her (we didn't ask for it). Just the note on the BP.
For her return leg, I had her down for points upgrade, which came through.

You can always ask for lounge access. You never know!

Last week I flew from VLI to MEL via SYD. I had a colleague who was on the VLI to SYD sector and going on to YVR.

Anyway, she was heading home back to Canada because her mother had passed away suddenly, she had a 6 hour transit in SYD, given i was going through to MEL and couldn't guest her into any lounge, I emailed the P1 team if she could possibly get into the J lounge (she was flying whY on QF75 to YVR)

The answer was a flat no.

Now I understand that according to the rules etc and shouldn't expect anything more than that, but was a little bit surprised.

Maybe they get a million Sally sob stories, and I do know that it was asking for something for nothing, but just a little bit of me was disappointed, not surprised, just disappointed.

I raised it with the SST the other day as well, and got a "that's interesting and shouldn't be the case; leave it with us to follow up" response. Haven't had any feedback yet (only been a few days) but I will before I next travel. Glad you raised it, onboard as well as with SST. I will keep raising it too if it happens again.

Have a few Y flights coming up. First world problem I know, but I will be very frustrated if I get poorer service than if I had remained a WP.

That said, have had good communications so far with SST, a free bottle of champagne, and offers for free Qantas Golf club (not a player so unlikely to join) and of course partner platinum (which is of no benefit) -- but good to have some concrete offers of benefits. Wish they offered 2 (or more) free / guaranteed one-class sector upgrades (if available at time of booking) instead of partner platinum, but I guess that's asking too much...

I'm never sure if they do shadows in J? I have often seen (when P1 but mainly WP) the seat next to me in J remain empty but not blocked in EF until quite late, but is then taken even though another seat remains empty. On most flights though I end up having a non-working member of QF flight crew or even ground crew seated next to me at the last second. While initially mildly annoyed, I enjoy chatting with a staffer - get some inside news and a better understanding of their jobs. Only happens rarely, but does upset me when the crew member is known to the CSM and they end up getting better treatment than the J pax (eg a hand grenade given when no-one else was offered it for breakfast) - but that has only happened a couple of times.

re partner plat vs another benefit... I too am someone who can't benefit from partner plat (I guess I could sign my cat up and gift her? :D ) but what might be cool is to offer a choice, much like with th 2400SC level offers. Partner plat, 100k points, a number of SWU type devices or something.. that would be VERY cool and allow some flexibility for those that don't have partners, or maybe have a status partner and might use the points or SWU(confirmed upgrade, whatever you want to call it)... we all have different travel patterns/needs/wants and a selection of offers might be nice.

Not sure that cove is P1, though?
I think I've seen only one report ever on a DSC offer for a P1.
But we can live in hope....:)

cove isn't but mrscove is and was the recipient of the 50% SC offer

Well, PF, your interpretative skills (and/or your insider knowledge :)) surpass mine, so I bow to your statement.
[In his earlier post, Cove did say DSC offer, not 50%, but I couldn't tell from his post if he had received the offer or if it went to mrscove.]

I reckon it doesn't matter how many received a DSC or +50%SC offer until you got it yourself!! :D but I'd like one please as well :)

Don't fancy your chances, RichardMEL - any more than I fancy mine!:)

And, on review, I suspect that the two reported sightings of a bonus SC offer (not entirely clear whether 100% or 50%) both related to the same person....
Would that be right, Princess Fiona? I think the earlier one was a second (or third) hand report from QFWP referring to the spouse of someone subscribed to another thread. (Phew! Is this all mysterious enough now? :))

Not interested in DSC as my buying habits and with whom I spend it with has been liberated since Simpler and fairer and we no longer spend money to either achieve or retain status.

P1 was not all it was cracked up to be and like so many others have reported they experienced little or no difference between it and WP. We now don't go out of our way to fly QF as blindly as we may have in the past.

Access to the F lounge is I agree nice but the J lounge isn't too bad either with LTG.

Domestic J Lounges not a huge difference in my experience and not worth going for WP just for access.

There are two lists that CSMs and crew use on board, one on the iPad, and the printed PIL (Passenger Information List). There is a section on the printed list that lists the seat numbers of the frequent flyer pax, broken down into their respective tiers. WP = FFPL and P1 - FFPO. I can only assume that the crew have looked at the "FFPL" only and missed the "FFPO" section which may get lost as it lists the seat numbers of all combinations of tiers. It seems odd that it would happen multiple times, but perhaps this is the case?

I am sure the SST are correct in what they say, that there is nothing wrong with your profile in the system, as whatever is printed on your boarding pass is linked to the passenger list, etc, so as long as that is on there it should appear on the passenger list that the crew use. I do hope the crew recognise you in the future and aren't missing the list of "FFPO" :)
