Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Only one invite, which I couldn’t make (because I was travelling, probably with the other mob).

On an unrelated matter, out of curiosity, when flying Dom Y on a 737, do any of my fellow P1s get automatically allocated row 4?

Yes I usually get 4A by default.

Im also forward with a view and I get row 5. I then change to 4.
Strange that its not automatically allocated but i guess i will add it to all the other quirky occurrences. On another matter, i am delighted to advise that a domestic CSM actually made a real effort with his only P1 whilst on a Perth-Bris flight this week. He even wrote out a very nice thank you card. Big shout out to Phil!!!

Re the events, I would say that I have been invited to ~1 per (non-COVID) year of being P1. Never to something I've really wanted to go to though.

On an unrelated matter, out of curiosity, when flying Dom Y on a 737, do any of my fellow P1s get automatically allocated row 4? Despite my preferences noting forward and on most of these flights row 4 (in both window and aisle) having availability, I always seem to be put in row 5. Not so much an issue as I change it straight away but curious more than anything.

This is because 4A is for pax with service animals.
If you have forward window in your profile it automatically boots you to 5A.

Has been doing this for a few years now.

Interesting just had to discuss a booking and rang VIP time and after a lengthy hold I was answered and the person didn't seem to know what they were doing even asked me to verify my full name 3 times. Turns out she was based in Auckland. She assured me she was a VIP team member. Anyway after 20 minutes I hung up as it was going nowhere. I will wait till I am.at the airport tomorrow and they can sort it.

When did Qf start a VIP team in Auckland?

They didn’t, overflow calls go there and the agents answer as VIP as you are P1.

I have just dropped down from P1 after 3 years and thought I would reflect on my experience. The TLDR being that I barely noticed the difference from WP.

Two invitations to "special events" - once to the cricket which I didn't bother attending as it was only GA tickets to an average match with no hospitality attached and once to a dinner at an art gallery which I did attend.

One invitation to the CL.

One complimentary upgrade to J - on a SYD to MEL, on a Saturday and on a widebody.

Hit and miss escorts on departure at LAX (never on arrival despite requesting and being promised it).

Never hads:
Never had any complimentary international upgrades
Never had any escorts at non-LAX airports
Never pro-actively escorted to the roped off area at the SYD F Lounge
Never pro-actively offered a F Lounge spa treatment at either SYD or MEL (always asked and had about a 1/3 success rate).
Never experienced any pro-active monitoring of my flight disruptions (both International and Domestic).
Never had any additional recognition or special treatment on domestic flights.

Once received a P1 thank you card when flying paid F on one leg of a return SYD-LHR from the London based crew.

Regularly left on hold waiting to speak to the VIP Team (once for more than an hour trying to rebook a same day cancelled flight).

The only real difference I noticed and appreciated was easier access to CR seats.

Ultimately, the only thing I have ever really wanted from QF status is to get looked after properly when things inevitably go wrong, and as a P1 I didn't really ever get that. At best, it was probably an experience similar to what I had as WP pre-COVID (perhaps even slightly worse).

So bottom line is that I felt like the whole thing was more marketing spin than actual appreciation and recognition. It is a lot of flying for really, no material recognition above WP.

Not going to miss it in the slightest and actually probably going to feel a lot more free to fly other airlines which have higher standards for every day customers than QF do for their most loyal.

Hope this is of some assistance to anyone who might be aspiring to it.
