you will find dozens of posts from members cashing out huge Qantas and Velocity balances on gift cards in early Covid - and feeling pretty smug at having done so.

OT, but I cashed out ~300k AsiaMiles for giftcards and some electronics in the middle of Covid when CX was looking shaky, and don't really regret it to be honest.

I set about to build points and SCs throughout COVID, figuring that COVID would finish and I’d have points and status to help me use them.

I don't regret cashing in QFF points for hotel stays at The Star - was upgraded to suites each time!
