Qantas Points Club Discussion

Well that’s annoying.

Here's the most interesting thing: Classic Flight Reward earning tables

So the earn tables are kind of as expected IMO. Not as good as cash earn rates, but still better than nothing. I'm still confused how one can book a QF marketed award between Asia and Europe though - maybe this sort of thing is in the works over at Oneworld?

LHR-SIN I guess. With the option that if they needed to re-route flights via another asian port? Agree that awards are generally limited to the operating carrier's flight number, but I'm not sure how that works for the couple of exceptions QF has with Asiana flights to Seoul (were those awards QF or OZ?)

Fair call - hadn't thought of LHR-SIN vv.

They're OZ coded. Same as awards to TPE which are CI coded.

Interesting reading on the details that have been released by Qantas on Points Club, Points Club Plus and the ability to earn SC's on "Qantas Marketed Flights"

So is my interpretation correct in that a Qantas OWA is eligible to earn SCs at the rates below?

Classic Flight Reward tables | Qantas Frequent Flyer

And if that interpretation is correct how do you calculate the SCs earned? The earn table seems very confusing

I'm amazed there isn't more activity on this thread. The introduction of status credits on award bookings is HUGE!!!

Will be very curious to see what the accrual rate is. Even if domestic Business = discount economy and international Business = Economy, that's a big bonus!

I agree, whilst the SC earn rate on award seat redemptions for points club members is not as good as the ” MASA days” , those SC earnt will be very handy for tier qualification. ;)

Yes, if you have qualified for Points Club, QF coded awards will earn SC.

Comparing cash vs award SC earn rates - it looks like

Economy awards earn 70% of their cash fare equivalent
Premium economy awards earn 50% of their cash fare equivalent
Business awards earn 40% of their cash fare equivalent

I posted this over in the other thread that's just been started, but the logic behind the charts seems to be

Economy awards earn 70% of the cash fare earn rate
Premium economy awards earn 50% of the cash fare earn rate
Business awards earn 40% of the cash fare earn rate
First awards earn 26.6% of the cash fare earn rate

So that's why I earned SC for a recent award flight. Thought it was odd to earn 0 points but SC.
The only part that is different is that I've never had an SC total not in a multiple of 5 until now, haha!

Yes. I have been awarded 72 SCs for QF93 MEL to LAX, in J Classic Award (so U class). Which matches the table linked. I'm pretty happy with that SC earn rate (or any, really) for a Classic Rewards flight so thumbs up from me.

Are you able to calculate whether those 72 SC have contributed to your loyalty bonus?

I know points from the loyalty bonus (if selected) don't contribute to Points Club qualification, but haven't seen any T&C about SC from Points Club benefits contributing to loyalty bonus.

Mine definitely have contributed to the 500 SC loyalty bonus tally.

I can confirm that it is counting towards my loyalty bonus as all of the SCs that have not counted can be accounted for by subtracting the loyalty bonuses and non-QF/JQ flights I've taken this membership year. The other giveaway is the odd divisability of the awarded SCs, I don't have any other awarded SC amounts ending in a 2 this period and this shows up in the total:

Status Credits will only be earned on Classic Flight Rewards if the flight is marketed or ticketed as ‘QF’, if the member is a Points Club or Points Club Plus member at the time of flying, and if the member’s Qantas Frequent Flyer number is added to the booking.
This suggests that if you make a Classic Flight Reward booking while you're a Points Club member, but lose your Points Club membership by the time you fly, then you won't earn the SCs.

Conversely though, it suggests that if you make a Rewards booking at a time when you're not a Points Club member, but manage to get into the Points Club by the time you fly, then you will earn SCs.

Something to consider when making a rewards booking. Will you be a Points Club member at the time of flying, rather than at the time of booking?
