Qantas Points with Afterpay

This does seem like a scheme to attract new customers to AfterPay. I wonder if they will ditch this intensive to use their product in a year once they've met their sign-up target? I wonder if competitors will go down the same path e.g. With Velocity points, once Velocity becomes more valuable again.

I've used AP once before so I'm ineligible for the 500 bonus points. I can't see myself spending over $1000 to start earning points either, especially if there is the likelihood that it may affect my credit rating. However, surly it can't be that bad regarding credit rating? Unless of course you miss payments.

I'm a fan of the Afterpay product. I think it offers a great alternative to established credit providers. I think a lot of the pushback against the product comes from established credit providers, but nothing stands still in life.

Sure you can abuse Afterpay, but you can abuse Visa and Amex and they are generally handed out like confetti.

But the point of this post is ... it's interesting that you can earn QFF using Afterpay but can't use Afterpay to pay for Qantas flights.

I reckon that's a lost opportunity for more market share on Qantas' part.

Does anybody know if someone has spent $1000 before linking their Qantas FF number that they're eligible straight away to earn points, or do they have to spend $1000 after linking?

Thank you.

Since you're an existing customer:
Existing Afterpay customers who link their Qantas Frequent Flyer account to their Afterpay account, and then spend $1,000, will earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent using the Afterpay Service up to a maximum of 5,000 Qantas Points.
Emphasis mine

Just signed up. How long does it take for the 500 points to post?
The time it takes.
I received an acknowledgement email about a week after joining saying points are in their way, but they’re not in my account yet. They will arrive in due course.

In two minds whether it is worth stuffing around getting the 5k points for each family QFF account. The angel is saying no, the devil is saying yes - I'll wait to see what compromise they come up with before progressing.

It’s only 500 points on signing up, not 5,000. Joining was no hassle, but I doubt I will actually use the service. It would be quite some hassle trying to earn the “up to 5,000” points on spending.

Yes, it was the 5k I am grappling with whether it's worth the hassle making some spend using the Afterpay product. The 500 points sign up was done without a second thought.

Same school of thought for me. I decided not worth the time and effort for the points.

The 500 points for signing up with Afterpay have not been credited to my QFF account yet. It’s been over 3 weeks. Has anyone else received their points?

I made a purchase on EBay yesterday and chose Afterpay. It seemed ridiculous for such a small amount, but the opportunity was there. Triple dipping!

I forgot about this. I'm similar timeframe and have not received anything. Additionally I've noticed the weekly Wellbeing points haven't been coming through for a few weeks either.

I received an email a couple of weeks back with an offer correction stating that I'm eligible for the 500 bonus points as I haven't made a purchase with Afterpay in the 12 months prior to the 8th of July.

It appears to me that this is all a marketing push to have new customers and existing dormant customers use their services.

I of course haven't received any points yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if it takes well over a month for this to occur.

Checking my activity today there’s an entry for Afterpay but with 0 points. Wondering if we’ll ever see the points.

I had two Afterpay entries post today, one with the points from the value of the spend (transaction was on 14 Jul), and another with just a dash and no points. Weird.

Same as you two above, RG1 and eminere. Entry today, transaction date July 7, with “0”. I was new to Afterpay, so what has happened to the sign up points? Do we now flood QFF with phone calls?

I had a look based on the posts above and I also received the raw prawn. My date was 17 July. I had the "dash" rather than 0.

My 500 points have come through today. The previous entry remains with the dash. I can only assume that must be the afterday spend of which I didn't partake.

Mine came through today also. Perhaps we had to wait until we made our first purchase using Afterpay to trigger the points for joining.
