Qantas scam. Yes they have reached a new low . Booked Malaysian business from Adl to Lhr . Only getting Qantas status points for Adl to Mel yet Both partners in one world. I booked this flight because my return flight is direct from KL to Adelaide so baggage hassle is less . Come on Qantas be fair to your Gold card customers.

Not a scam. QF ffp earning from MH flights have been low for years. As published on the QF web site. MH Business credits as flex economy.
What was the fare booking class?
Qatar QR could have got to ADL-DOH LHR, but poor QF ffp earnings.

Welcome to AFF @Brain Drain .

When you say you only got points for ADL to MEL (do you mean KUL?) is that from them merely not crediting to your account, or have you sent in a points/SC claim and been denied?

If just not credited, this is not uncommon and you can put in a claim (I don't know the portal, sorry).

If done that and denied, it appears you should get both points and Status Credits (SCs): from the Qantas points calculator

I couldn't get it to show Business; I don't fly MH at all and there may be some equating of Business and Flex Economy. Again, not all airlines are treated equally. The fact that they are both in OneWorld isn't relevant - its the airline and fare basis that Qantas takes into account when awarding points and SCs (or not).

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about QF and MH can chime in - perhaps @serfty

MH earnings have been very low for as long back as I can remember. Nothing new to see here AFAICS

This is the info you need.

Although both in oneworld, QF and MH are competitors, so QF discourages travelling them on routes in competition, especially Australia - Europe.

No earn for business as business, but it might count as flex economy (you'd have to check the fare class)

EK hasn’t returned to ADL and nothing concrete to suggest they will. Qantas has forced us to fly with other OW carriers and then punishes us for the privilege of doing so

It's looking pretty certain for the NS schedule (however I'll admit I thought it already happened, I don't pay much attention to what goes on in ADL)

Would be nice but everything has seemed to have gone quiet. None of my usual contacts at the airport or at government have heard anything more recent. We have used them in the past from ADL but still went via the East Coast thanks to the horrible aircraft they were using at the time. Will be great to have them back when/if it eventuates

I wonder what the loads are on QF ADL-PER-LHR? If QF is getting a lot of pax perhaps they've been pressuring EK.

Just spitballing.

QF/MH have had a rocky relationship for years (remember the "Red" joint ventture that went pear shaped?) and yes, they also compete, and QF has actively pushed towards its own kangaroo route services via PER and SIN over connections over KUL (the MH product used to be quite OK prior to covid, not so sure about now) via poor earn as noted by a few above. You can see the clear intent by the difference between earning for non competing routes and the Kangaroo routes (eg: Oz-KUL, KUL-LHR).

I can see why the OP (welcome to AFF) feels it is a scam though it isn't really. You'd THINK you'd get reasonable or equal(ish) earn on an apparent partner... but as we know with QFF nothing is either "Simpler" or "fairer" unfortunately and doing one's research is key with such things (it shouldn't HAVE to be, but sadly it is).

I think EK have quietly pushed ADL further back.

Generally speaking, QFFF points earning is poor on nearly all OW airlines (AA is not too bad)

Yeah, I honestly don’t know. Personally going via PER doesn’t interest me in the slightest and that’s even if prices were similar but as it is SQ and QR are generally about $1k cheaper than QF in J for a vastly better product overall.
I know plenty of friends and work colleagues who have flown to the UK in Y and think it’s a 50/50 split between QR and SQ, I don’t know anyone who has flown QF. SQ is normally the cheapest of the 3 but I guess some prefer a stopover in Doha or Singapore over Perth especially if they can get a stopover package.

It is kind of a scam. Advertise the benefits of oneworld membership but change the fine print to suit one's own self interest. Like all scams you just have to be aware of it and avoid it.

And their flights were packed every time.

Advertise the benefits of oneworld membership
1)Connection in a oneworld network - yes, sort of. They call it "Global", but whatever
2)Earning and redeeming - yes, sort of . But the details are always in the fine print
3)Airport lounge - yes, sort of.
4)Priority checkin - yes, compared with non priority.
5) Speed and ease AKA removal of points of friction in travel - yes, sort of, maybe
6) Extra baggage allowance - yes

The details are always important but often overlooked.

Since July 2014 as part of “Simpler & Fairer” (TM). Prior to that MH earned the same as other OW partners for the 18 odd months from joining OW in Feb 2013(?).

The irony is QF sponsored MH into OW but something went south in a bad way in the intervening period.

EK hasn’t returned to ADL and nothing concrete to suggest they will. Qantas has forced us to fly with other OW carriers and then punishes us for the privilege of doing so
MH aside (which is coughty), QR ex ADL earns better SCs than ex SYD, MEL and BNE….
