Qantas Premier Credit Card

Has anyone had any luck lately with the "not a cancellation, but my what can we do about my fee" call? Switched to a NAB business card (wanted everything streamlined) so need to cancel, but figured I'd see what milking can be done.
I called late November 2021. Received 50% discount on the annual fee, so I elected to keep it another year.

I called last month, received a 50% reduction in the fee. I have kept the card for another year also.

Citi surprises me again… and for a good reason this time.

Applied last night at about 11pm. Received a txt just now saying it’s approved (1pm). Just uploaded 2 payslips with the application.

No calls, no arguments with Manila. How refreshing!

I have had a QF card application followed by a citi branded card a few months later and they too were surprisingly low maintenance. Has the business been taken over in Australia yet by whoever brought the CC business?

I don’t believe so, no. Last I heard CBA were in the mix, so that will no doubt change things!

Same here. Retiree and uploaded both personal and military super payments info. Approved for the credit limit I asked for.

NAB ended up buying all the Citi Australian Consumer business including credit cards.

Thanks, I didn’t know that. Not sure if it’s any better though given my last few NAB experiences!

This made me edgy, more concentration of the market in the big 4. But yeah, upsides and downsides. I way prefer NAB’s consumer banking interface to citi’s clunky model. The idea canvassed in the article of brands like QF, with their IT and Call centre failings, issuing their own cards made me jumpy. But the latter seems pretty implausible.

Cheers skip

I have both Qantas Premier MasterCard (Citi) and NAB Qantas Visa. I note that the Qantas Premier MasterCard via Citi provides up to 25 days interest-free, while the NAT Qantas Visa only offers 16 days. I don't know if this is driven by MasterCard vs Visa or Citi vs NAB, but it makes a difference to the card I choose to use most of the time.

I closed my Qantas premier plat account this morning...there was zero attempt to talk me out of it or even ask why...is that not a thing anymore? EDIT: OK, read a few recent replies on this thread and can see that wording is important when considering cancellation. Per below I was going to cancel anyway regardless of anything that was said / offered.

I have used the card plenty over the last year but am done with STILL no android payment option.

I have persevered with this card since about 2018, but I am thinking it is time to jump ship.

Finally looking to install google pay and I find this useless card still doesn't support it. IIRC there was some "not just yet, real soon now" commentary about this in 2018.

Cheers skip
I had a conversation with Qantas Mastercard the other day and they said they were looking into googlepay as so many of their cardholders had complained.......however I don't think someone soon. I am sorry I never thought of asking them about the fee when I called.

You called to cancel? Is that still a thing?

Is there another way? I think I've only had one card....Bank of Melbourne maybe....where account closure was self service. Besides, the annual fee was charged today so waited for points to post then wanted to make sure that was reversed.

Several years ago changes were made under law so that every credit card provider must offer an online method to cancel your card. I never used to call anyway, instead I wrote a letter. But I haven't done this for at least 2 years, likely longer.

It can be done by logging into Qantas Money.

Wondering what the May offer for this card would look like. Hoping for a Status Credits offer again. Missed out on it last year due to the 12 month exclusion period.

Yes, Qantas Money cards can be cancelled online (I think its on the left tool bar of the website).

That's promising as I just applied through them for my first credit card since retiring just over two years ago. Lots of different income streams that add up to quite a lot but still worried that they will discount them for no other reason than that they aren't PAYE income. Documents provided today so should find out soon enough.
