Thought I'd look into in one of these CCs, just closed my citi one so have nothing right now, applied last week, received a phone call today (while driving to Sydney T3 where I'm sitting now) asking did I have any relatives who are Federal Senators. Thought that was a bizarre question so said I would disconnect and call back. I did and that was the question, they named several senators asking was I related.

Strange.

Have had similar strange questions. They asked if I was a director of a specific company.

No luck on getting annual fee halved this time round. Have had it halved every year since it first come out. Three different operators, all towing the same line.

Time to shop around!

Was anyone offered incentives not to close the card recently??
I got offered 50% off the annual fee last time but decided the bonus points were more valuable so cancelled the card.
Due for my annual review this time around …

I'll still churn as often as I can, but this card, as you say, just terrible return, not worth it. Others far better.
Maybe, but you're paying $0.0058/point at that rate. A terrible rate for QF points. Australian credit card churning is on a noticeably downward trajectory at the moment.

This is my only credit card now. I’m retired and it’s very hard to get a Qantas earning credit card without a regular income.

I do have the latitude card for overseas spends.

I haven’t started drawing down on my super yet.

The same with me it is my only credit card. I have applied for two others but they've both been rejected due to income.

I'm retired 9 years and on a fixed income. I was surprised recently when I was approved for the Virgin Money card with 80,000 bonus points and 1:1 earning rate.

They even gave me a $24000 credit limit (I've since reduced it) compared to my (about to be cancelled) St George card which only gave me $6000.

My motto now is keep on churning but be prepared for knockbacks and the occasional pleasant surprise.

I'm going to start looking at Qantas cards again after I cancel my Amex Platinum later this year. I did swear off them but have a reasonable stockpile of points and it looks like things are improving for redemptions.
