Has anyone had success using the concierge phone line/service for non-flight bookings?

Im thinking along the lines of difficult to get restaurant tables or matildas soccer tickets?

Actually never tried. It wasn’t the reason I got the card ( although with the changes to Amex Platinum, maybe I should reconsider ;))

But you phone the ‘concierge’ for the discount Qantas flight bookings ….. they are offshore and appear to work strictly to a script

If what you’re looking for is even remotely off-piste (difficult to get restaurant booking 😉) I’d have a Plan B lined up and ready to go

They’re just professional Googlers… No access to anything special, or secret contacts. Give 'em a try, but I'd expect little more than a protracted way of achieving the same thing you could on your own.

So basically the service is more for those who are lazy or time poor more than those who actually want to muscle in on something they couldn't otherwise obtain?

Yes; or possibly those not very confident with search and online bookings etc. Even someone who is time poor would waste as much time going over details and reviewing the options as they would just going it alone.

I’ve had access to these kind of services though various premium and corporate cards over the last couple of decades, and not once been happy; let alone impressed. Do any of them ever deliver? Maybe Centurion?

Cheers,
Matt.

Not sure Centurion will have what you’re looking for either … they’re apparently good travel agents according to them. YMMV

Personally, I’m not fussed; I’m very much a DIY guy… more wondering if they do work ‘as advertised’ by the financial institutions for anyone.

All the ones I’ve used over the years aren’t any better than Googling yourself. Guess that’s the path Amex platinum has taken. Notionally, Centurion haven’t done that yet …

Tried using the Amex Plat concierge about 10yrs ago for a restaurant booking; gave them a second chance with some concert tickets. Utterly useless. They offered nothing more than I could have done myself. Never bothered since

As for the Titanium, one is obliged to use the Concierge for the discounted airfares but other than it, I wouldn’t bother. In fact I find being forced to use them for the ticket purchase an irritation

whilst this card is the same price-point as the Amex Plat the product doesn‘t really come within a country mile; so I’d have no confidence that the concierge would be able to offer any value-added

As an aside, the card needs to be ‘World Elite’ (not World) with Lounge access amongst many other things (HSBC World Elite is £195 pa). And if used should not have credit card fees applied on the QF website!!

It sure is… though I’ve had success and have it in writing that so long as I book direct on QF with an eligible fare, and take a screen shot off the fare breakdown before payment with the card, they will process the discounts in the form of a reimbursement, rather than the discount. I prefer this.

Couldn’t agree more! Even within NAB’s own brand array they have the Citi Prestige MC which provides the World Elite product at A$700 p/a. I wrote to Qantas Money suggesting this needs to be looked at, and it’s a poor showing for such a high cost card not to include this. Their response (in essence): “There are many credit cards in the market with various fees. Thank you for your interest” 😂😂😂

Ahhh, that’s excellent. I didn’t know that. Really useful info’. Thanks. May I ask where you send the email with the screen shot?

To paraphrase the Mastercard advertisement, that’s priceless

Sure can - I’m away at the moment, but home tomorrow to where these particular mails are archived. I’ll PM you

This has all been very enlightening! Im glad I tried my restaurant reservation 2-3 months before I actually wanted to make a real booking.

I suppose I'll just have to be poised at the keyboard when the open up.

Thanks for all your help

Did anyone notice that this card now comes with a promotion? It comes with a $400 QANTAS Luxury Holidays voucher. I noticed that the luxury holidays section of the QANTAS holidays web site is very limited. Does that mean that you need to spend it on "luxury holidays", or can you use it on any QANTAS holidays?

Well, my card has been minted and it's on it's way, so we'll soon find out won't we. Any idea how long they take to come?

I can't recall exactly... but it was pretty quick... like within a few days of approval. The welcome pack is pretty fancy.

Hi guys,

What sorts of credit limits are people getting approved for with this card ?

And is one year notice of assessment enough "proof of income" for those who are self-employed ?

Cheers
