As QFF’s from Brisbane International, we hadn’t travelled domestic with Qantas for a while.

My husband and I recently had the best experience to date at Brisbane Domestic Airport with Qantas PB as Platinum & Gold QFF’s last week.

Qantas Brisbane domestic now have a dedicated PB and security check in area separate to the “standard” security screening zone For Business/Platinum & Gold.

we didn’t realise initially and bag dropped in the “usual” location. I noticed the Qantas PB sign for Platinum & Gold as we walked into departures.
We were about to line up in the very long standard security check point, when I suggested we go to the Qantas dedicated PB area.

We were greeted immediately by a Qantas staff member & our boarding passes were scanned & we were able to be screened by a dedicated security check point located inside the PB area just for platinum/gold QFF’s.

There was even two dedicated bag check in & drops located inside the PB zone.
we did not seem to find the same dedicated separate PB area for Qantas in Melbourne domestic upon our return flight home.

Qantas Melbourne domestic need to take a look at what Brisbane have done....what an absolutely fantastic service! We really felt like we were treated as Platinum & Gold FF members should be with Qantas at Brisbane domestic. Well done Qantas....if all of your Australian domestic PB areas become like your Brisbane service , you will be servicing your elite FF’s very well.

Apologies if I've missed it in your post, but what is a PB zone? I usually associate 'PB' with Priority Boarding, but that doesn't make sense given the context.

Melbourne has a priority security queue as well, sometimes it even has someone guarding the entrance!
O.k, thanks for informing me. We didn’t see it at Melbourne Domestic. I presumed signage for PB would be near the standard security screening similar to Brisbane domestic. I did see the sign for business/platinum at the standard security screening, but didn’t see a separate PB area.

I shall have to ask next year when we fly back from Melbourne again 👍

Brisbane Domestic have a dedicated bag checkin/drop & security screening area for Business/Platinum & Gold QFF’s. It is a service which forms part of Priority Boarding. upon security clearance you are escalated to either the standard Qantas lounge or the business if your are travelling business or are Platinum.

I am presuming our Brisbane Domestic experience is part of the Qantas Premium Boarding service upgrade.

Brisbane international doesn’t have this service, which is very painful when you are flying business, have an express pass to clear security faster....yet are still made to line up in the exhaustive queue!

We’ve just used this great service this morning. One oversight, we had a spare luggage tag inside a suitcase and that meant we couldn’t do a quick bag drop. Were redirected back to a slow queue, but eventually the staff member realised she could be more helpful and found a way around it. That meant we had enough time for a quick cup of tea in the business lounge. After a 4am wake up, it was needed!

No.

The premium entry (which is what I call it) has been around for ooh I am going to say two years now? Something like that and has nothing to do with Priority Boarding (except for the same groups of people can use both I guess).

The QF Priority Boarding effort to fix it up started officially a week ago (November 25) and is at all ports.

Melbourne can not have a Premium Entry similar to BNE because of the nature of the building - it is very different to BNE (and I think also leasing arrangements of the T1 vs the area in BNE).

So no, Melbourne does not have a Premium Entry like iN BNE - in fact no other Australian port has anything like this IMO. It's very nice, and quite unique.

QF Do have a premium security lane at MEL as you indicated you saw, it is to the very right of the main security checkpoint area. Sometimes it has someone checking but usually it's an honour system. It usually works OK. I rarely see big queues there.

Please try not to use "PB" to refer to different things, as it can be confusing :)

Qantas operate from dedicated terminals in SYD and MEL, so perhaps they deemed Premium Entry less of a necessity at these ports (to help their elites avoid the great unwashed JQ/TT masses). No point doing it at CBR either considering at least 50% of QF passengers would be SG/WP/P1/CL.

Melbourne last night, Sunday 1 December at Melbourne airport there was a Qantas rep standing checking boarding passes at the priority screening.

The separate area Brisbane has for priority screening is pretty good.

Qantas Club members can also use this dedicated checkin area too. We were there last Monday and for the first time since using it we were travelling in Y and are now Lifetime Silver and QC. Other times we’ve been in J.

Realised the priority security & lounge entry in BNE only last week. But had to have a quiet laugh: the queue there was much longer than in the normal security. Would have been quicker to the lounge through the normal security check... 😀

Perhaps a mod could modify the subject line to note the discussion is mostly about BNE Premium Entry rather than "PB"?

From the priority queue you have direct access (more or less) to the business lounge. The other way is a walk through the terminal and Qantas Club lounge. There is still a business class queue in the general area.

One of the reasons I nearly always fly out of BNE and not OOL these days, despite OOL being much closer for me.

To be fair, you would have encountered the same issues in the terminal proper and probably an even longer line to get to the service desk ;)

I've lost track of the amount of times I've used it since opening and never encountered any queues. Quite a lot of my flights are first in the morning too, but it can be quite busy, but I guess rush hour is perhaps a little busier than that even?

Usually afternoon departures for me and longest queue was a family of 4.
