Qantas Project Sunrise goes ahead, 12 new A350-1000s ordered

Would be great if true, but it's likely MEL will follow after SYD on the basis of population and high yielding travellers.

Travel agents have suggested to me SYD generates far more business class traffic than MEL, with the claim being this is true across mostairlines, yet Melbourne for instance is the #1 manufacturing centre in Oz.

I guess investment bankers and corporate high fliers (more top companies based in Sydney) are the ones who have the highest propensity to use business (or on the small number of airlines that offer it) first class air travel. Plus public servants based in CBR presumably prefer to connect through SYD not MEL.

BNE is allegedly distant third despite the Gold Coast white shoe brigade. In theory PER with its miners ought be significant.

i think Qantas has already said the PER flight isn’t going anywhere so would make sense to originate this in BNE once MEL gets a sunrise flight.

I think you have no problem treating Qantas in contempt in any thread - why would this one be any different?
Holding someone accountable does not equal contempt.

With the amount of taxpayer money they have received, as well as other government benefits, i think they are open to be questioned when they do and say silly things.

Oh please! How is turning this into yet another rant thread by the usual suspects "holding them accountable". It's really making AFF quite a tiresome place to be as we can never just talk about the topic, it always goes down this same path...

And since when was announcing a new aircraft acquisition a "silly thing"? The same people ranting here were ranting they didn't have enough long haul aircraft in another thread!

Melbourne to Paris - yes please.

The New York routes most relevant for our business though and would be much favoured over stop over flights.

Qantas announcements are frequent, repetitive, and often have little relevance for the flying public when the subject of the announcement can be years away (seven years for the a330 refurbishment, three years or so for the a380).

Anything coming out of tomorrow’s announcement is unlikely to resolve the *current* long haul fleet issues. If tomorrow’s announcement was that they were leasing five 787s for immediate deployment that would be something interesting! :)

So we've gone from "holding them accountable for saying and doing silly things" to "repetitive and little relevance" for something too far in the future. Which is it?

I'd suggest if you're not interested in the announcement, then don't watch it, and don't read this thread.

Perhaps I will show a modest interest if QF ever schedules the A350K out of PER. Meanwhile I will not hold my breath.
The best return of $$/SC exPER has been (and will continue to be) to land first in SE Asia before worrying about long haul.

In February 2022, Airbus had a backlog of 7058 aircraft.

Maybe QF's official 'order date' is months ago, and perhaps because Airbus is keen to highlight when long established carriers move to a much greater percentage of Airbus jets, QF will have some sort of priority in deliveries.

But as with so many manufacturers in various other sectors, Airbus hasn't yet managed to deliver as many aircraft monthly as in 2019.

Given components come from all over the world, will Airbus order fufillment be slowed at least a little due to mainland China's draconian lockdowns in many major cities including Shanghai as the despot there stupidly pursues unachievable 'COVID zero?'

Multiple mentions of PER in this article - switching PER-LHR to the 350 and an unlikely suggestion of an A321 PER-SGN...

Generally they pickup a whole heap of flexibility around delivery and payment timeframes if they add/go heavier. It’s also no trade secret that QF is wanting to extend out that Jetstar A320 order which half was going to Asia, and now none of it is, they keep converting that order slowly to A321s, and then stretching out the delivery schedule.

I remember another airline who wanted to move A320 deliveries around due to financial constraints, it’s a no from Airbus, but if you increase the order and give us more money, then sure we can modify the contract. They added another 5 A320s and stretched the order out plus 3 years.
