Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

The equal of high requirement has always existed. There are plenty of ways to deal with that requirement. For a start the requirement is based on fare class not dollar cost.

Waiving the change fees is pretty generous, as those are the killers for any non-flexible fare.

I'm just not seeing anything to suggest the equal fare will not be available besides speculation in this thread.
The poster I replied to could go into First class for an extra $500, a higher fare. For my vouchers I've had the option to move to business class for $33, a higher fare class.
I see you are back to trying to compare one way fares with return fares.
The $500 extra to fly first class is a ONE WAY TICKET. The difference for business flights I booked and payed for that QANTAS have had my money for 8 months for is now quoted at over $2,600 more.. as I said look it up on qantas.com.
As for you attacking me because of the fare I paid and my wanting like for like..well I only bought what QANTAS was happy to sell. All I want now is like for like...or a full refund...all they are offering is a firm possibility of a definite maybe where I have the option to pay another $2,600 (x3 PAX) to fly to the same place. I call that Price gouging

I just cancelled 2 x F Classic Reward flights, QF1 at the end of March and QF2 in mid-April. Qantas cancelled QF1 last week but QF2 was still active.

Last week I received an SMS telling me QF1 had changed (it was cancelled of course) and that I should "go to manage your booking and review your options". I cancelled the flight. I have not received the refund. Tonight I got an email telling me that "your upcoming flight (QF1) has been cancelled and the value of your ticket stored in credit". I didn't like the sound of that so I rang the "secret number". The call was answered within a minute.

I gave the booking ref and was asked if, as there were no alternative flights, I would like a full refund? Yes please. I then explained that I had a separate booking for the return flight and could she look at that? She said that the flight hadn't been cancelled yet but she could give me a full refund as it was my return flight. Lovely. She said that both the points and cash will be refunded in 5 to 10 days. I'm happy given the circumstances.

I hope that helps someone.

I'm waiting on hold now for over 2 and a half hours, just was wondering, I do have a Qantas Money Premier Credit Card.

Do you think that I'd be able to call them even though the booking wasn't initally booked using that Credit Card?

Any refund will be made to card you used to originally pay for the booking.

My query was more thinking would they be able perform the refund and answer quicker rather than remaining on hold on the main 13 13 13 number, even though the booking was made via bpay and not the Premier Platnium Card

Unless you have a concierge service that's willing to hold on the line for you, I think you will need to contact Qantas yourself to handle the booking/refund.

No, the Qantas card is a Citibank card with Qantas marketing livery on it and if you call them, you will get a Citibank person who will have a hard enough time helping you with banking-related queries let alone anything flight related.

Received the following email late yesterday arvo from Qantas Airways Limited <[email protected]>.

Problem is they didn't provide the booking reference or route. Nothing has changed in My Bookings.
Guessing games, it could be for one of the reward bookings cancelled last week.

Cancellation of your upcoming Qantas Flight

Important information about your flight

Qantas has announced further network changes in response to Coronavirus and various government travel restrictions.

As a result, your upcoming flight has been cancelled and the value of your ticket stored in credit. You will receive a second email this week with the details of your credit voucher, which will outline the options available to you. As we are experiencing long wait times, please reconsider your need to contact us at this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

That's the email I got too, I waited on hold for just under 4 hours for them to tell me that the flights were not yet cancelled in their system yet so it would incur fees for a refund, ironically I received another email 2 hours after being on the phone that

What method did you use to pay (Credit card, etc)? What type of ticket was it (red deal etc)? What month was your flight? Please let us know if you receive a full refund.

Flights were Sales fare on QF3 & QF4 SYD-HNL on May 8 and returning on May 18.

I paid via bpay so it may be a pain in the cough to get the refund

I've received an email advising of changes to my PER - MEL - CBR flight on 15 April (no changes yet to the outbound CBR - MEL - PER flights on 7 April). I now have a transit in Melbourne of minus 2 hours o_O. The option to cancel is greyed out and the instruction is to call them to acknowledge the change. As my flights aren't in the next few days, I think I'll just wait a while to see if other flights in this booking are cancelled.

Went to cancel my upcoming MEL-LST-MEL flights 2 days ago and I had the option to cancel for refund or voucher. After cancelling accom in LST I went back in today to action the flight cancellation and the refund option has now mysteriously disappeared without any email or notification. I'm not sure that integrity is a strong point at Qantas.

Serfty posted the terms and conditions of his voucher in a previous post:

This credit voucher is valid for travel until xx February 2023, after which your booking will be cancelled and the credit voucher value will be forfeited (unless your original fare permits a refund).
* This credit voucher can only be used for a fare of equal or higher value than your original fare and for travel on Qantas operated flights from or within Australia. This credit voucher is non-transferable and name changes are not permitted.
* To redeem this credit voucher, please visit qantas.com/yourbooking
* Please check the fare conditions of your original booking to find out what fees may apply when you redeem your credit voucher.
* Further information about credit vouchers and when they can be used is available at Credit Vouchers.
So I don't follow your point about fare class vs fare. It is clear from serfty's post that at least some vouchers have the condition that it must be a higher '$ value' fare.

As an aside I note from today that QF is not offering vouchers anymore but a 'flight credit'
I actually outlined this in the post you quoted.

My cancelled flight voucher had a flexi fare on the booking. I have to book a flexi fare when I use the voucher. I can book a different, cheaper, route using the voucher where the flexi fare cost is lower than the value of the voucher. So equal fare class, lower cost. And they offer a refund of the remaining value.

The prices you quoted are One Way NOT return. My ticket is from Melbourne to New York return for $6,000.
If you go to QANTAS.COM and look up DEALS and look up Business return MEL to JFK you will see it is $8,640 at very best!

A search for random dates in June is showing MEL to JFK for $3400 out and $3600 return.
Or maybe see if you can use your voucher for a one way MEL to Sydney in business, and they offer a refund of the unused value.

OR take the refund, pay the $800 fee person and rebook at the current sale price. That will cost less than $2600 over all.

Right so, having an opinion that Qantas are not price gouging you is a personal attack.

I give up, there is no helping some people.

Just wondering: Other than if you have a cancelled booking that qualified for DSCs (and assuming you can rebook for another flight that is eligible for DSCs, ie travel by February 2021), is there any advantage to getting the voucher over a refund?

Hi, @bslater86 ; did they charge you the cancellation fees or any fees when you requested for the refund via website? I've also today received my email to say that my flights are cancelled and changed into a voucher. Thanks.

It didn't mention anything about fees on the page

I took a screenchot that has the amount on there and it was the same as the full booking so if they charge the $400 per person I will be very upset and angry about it

So in your case you had a flexi fare. Many - perhaps the vast majority - of people who will be impacted are going to be those who don't have flexi fares. Those flying to USA/Europe on the current fares between $800 and $1500. Or leisure travelers with 'business saver' fares, or premium economy saver fares.

It's those people who may come in for the shock when it comes time to use their vouchers. People travelling on business where their company pays flexi fares - probably not so much of an issue?

I clicked on the red Refund button as well in Manage my Booking and got the following message:

Confirmation of refund request
Your refund request is currently being processed for $xx_x (AUD).
Due to a high volume of refunds, were currently experiencing longer processing times. Thank you for your patience while we work through these.

The $xx_x amount matched the value of the credit voucher.

I was somewhat expecting T+Cs to be shown after clicking the Refund button but it takes you straight to confirmation - something to be aware of.

If this works it should take some load off the call centre.

Thanks :), I'm going to hit that button now. I have so many travel vouchers after all the changes in March, I really do not need another one :(

I would be very upset too if there was a fee. But I think if the refund amount shows the full amount then I think we should be safe :D
