Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

Not sure if this is the right thread, but when will Qantas cancel the next batch of international flights? I think they have officially cancelled international flights to 31.03.2021 but what about those after that date? Pretty sure there will be no free travel to the UK or the USA before July (and even after that...)

On another note, I have cancelled a reward booking on 01.01.2021 (for flying on the 5th, Domestic SYD-MEL) and had the money and points back by 03.01.2021 - that was quite quick compared to previous cancelled reward bookings.

In relation to the letter by John Ward who wanted to know if anyone could beat his delay in getting a refund from Qantas, I can confirm that I can. My travel agent sought a refund for my international travel tickets on April 15. They have advised me they are still waiting. This is very unfair of Qantas. How about a Christmas present from Qantas to everyone who has waited most of the year for their money to be returned?

Regarding John Ward's seven month wait for a refund, I've been trying to get a refund since March. Two weeks became 12 and at 14 weeks they found the job number from August. In November, they said the wait time would be about six months. If this date is met, that will be almost 18 months for a refund. At this point I've initiated a chargeback to see if the banks have any better luck.

If it is 60 days, it will be 60 days from the date the service was failed to be delivered. In the case of refunds that could be a moving date. For example if QF says 12 weeks for a refund, the time for a chargeback wouldn't start running until that 12 weeks. If you called up and they said 'another month', the date for the chargeback would move accordingly.
 
I had a successful chargeback against TG.
Travel was booked for March.
They initially said, in April, 45 - 60 days for the refund and on following up in Sept, they said it could be up to another 180 days.
Applied for the chargeback in October which then took about two weeks to be processed.
 
If Qantas has cancelled my original flight and automatically rescheduled me on another flight, does that count as a "cancellation" to be able to get a full flight credit with no change fees in the future?

Yes. You don’t have to accept the change and can request a refund instead. But I would think this needs to be claimed at the time, or soon after once you’ve had reasonable time to think about whether the changes suit you. Not sure if you could claim months later.

Once the change is made, you can leave it for months before you eventually claim the refund.

I had this happen - simply ignored accepting the change until some months later QF emailed and then phoned me a couple of days ahead of the changed date to sort it out. This happened because they stopped putting the refund button on the bookings and I didn’t want more flight credits. Already got a dozen

Just as a data point - 3 calls needed to get refund

27 Feb - Bought International tickets off QF website, paid by BPay (due to fly 12/12)

Early/Mid Oct - flight cancelled

Next day - 1st call to convert to refund (12 week estimate)

Next day - BPay request form received by email , responded.

Early Jan - 2nd call as passed 12 week mark, needed to give BPay details over phone

That afternoon - processed refund confirmed by email

Two weeks later - 3rd call to confirm refund processed and not returned (advised it can take up to three weeks)

Next day - money in bank account.
