Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

J is now officially definitely the new F

IMG_6394.png

Consider the Senate submission folk who worked hard, spent cash and discovered they couldn’t find a seat after all those years of putting FF points into their QFF account

Now
They discovered they can score a seat - at twice the price!
So back to square one

Points are a bit like stranded assets. “You may as well use to ‘em to get rid of ‘em cause otherwise they’ll go to waste.”

So if instead you are forced to cough up the cash then you may as well shop elsewhere - on some of the J offerings to Europe QF are twice the price of their competitors. They have historically around 15% of international PAX

On the domestic side, since August 23, QF have cut down their excessive dom J fare prices (REX / VA have pushed QF alongside the very likely scenario that business travel per se has been significantly affected by Work from Home. Zoom in and it’s done in an hour or two.)

Get on a ✈️ it’s vastly more expensive for the business and soaks a lot of extra time that can be freed up to do other activities

Most Australians know a fair deal and thus domestic travel on points will likely be where they redirect their points spend - after all does one really need more than a seat on the fast bus 🚌 ✈️?
Even 7 has now thought nyet

PS those of us “in the know” will get to find the “sweet spots” and adjust our spending points earning and points redemption to suit the “new scenario”

One can only hope this is the last of former head of (dis)Loyalty - Olivia Wirth's dystopian plans to rip any and all benefits out of QFF, while keeping the media chattering classes happily providing free column inches.
So this is not a good addition in any way at all?

Also for those looking, seems some sakura season CR J are available.

Ok i dislike this UI element.

Shows C+ as theres no Y CR but there is J CR.

I would argue not for the majority of people. If you have a business you can rack up points that way but it will take a lot of credit card bonuses now to get a CR plus
Depends on where you want to go. Not everyone wants to go to NY or London. Asia would be within "reasonable" amount of points to save up for in a reasonable amount of time.

Just saw ....

3 July SYD-JFK J CR 144,600pts +$392
vs.
5 July SYD-JFK J CR+ 649,700pts + $702

That's absolutely flippin' ridonculous in anyones language.
Or you could have the CR fare on one day and the cash equivalent on the other day with absolutely no points options.

Just had a look - seems Classic+ is currently only available / visible within the "regular" search, rather than the "multi-city" search portal?

Hopefully it stays that way.

There‘s already enough cough* in the CR search results without masking the real stuff further.

*eg a SYD-SIN search shows “Biz” CR but when you click through, it’s SYD-MEL-SIN on QF/JQ and “Your flight MEL-SIN will be in Economy”….

That is true...but to me the point is the extra 'points' cost that is in this case almost 5x the original....just my observation and thoughts.... I bow to those with greater intellect and knowledge

To be fair, you can't expect every single seat on the flight to be priced at a CR price.

These J fares SYD-JFK one-way are around $11000. I personally think the higher points price is better value than paying $11000 cash.

To be fair
It’s 2-3 times more points for Y

But those fees to keep the price points down
The lowest special J fare Sydney London was $8,499 (finished 23 March) so on that basis your 553,000 points are paying for $6,800 of cash airfare

Ouch
Whereas 289,000 points are paying for $7,100 of airfare

I notice that in media reports about the media event at QF HQ this morning that "select QFF members" were also invited to attend. Wonder if it was anyone from here and they picked up on any extra tidbits?

Yes a couple had mentioned receiving an invite. Only 1 suggested actually going
