Qantas Sale?

And the purpose of the sale would be to simply irritate loyal frequent flyers who have booked all their flights 6 months in advance at a higher price....

A worthy sacrifice for my cheap flights

No doubt they're flogging off seats. Dummy booking MEL-LAX return (Dep. Mel 16th ; Dep. LAX 24th) is $1400. Unheard of with such late notice.

This may also just be the case of the very soft forward bookings that Qantas has been claiming for the last few weeks. I think if/when the sale starts we will all know about as it will most likely be a significant advertising campaign.

I suppose I’m also interested in hearing of any sales… though I’m also looking at Virgin more and more too, just because they treat me nice.

I think its best to keep some money in the kitty for some cheap flights and double points/SCs, its logical that it will happen:

"Qantas will cut prices across its international and domestic network, offer grounded passengers special promotional deals, and take out one of the biggest national advertising campaigns in its 90-year history in a bid to win back disenchanted travellers in the lead-up to the peak Christmas period," the Australian Financial Review said.
Qantas also planned to bring in a temporary measure to double the rate of frequent flyer points earned, the newspaper said in its unsourced report.

Their flights between 20th Dec to 10th Jan are still too expensive, I'm hoping they reduce those prices but highly doubtful.

Probably good advice, if tickets are cheap enough I might suggest we do a trans tasman F lounge run (mainly because I'm now out of 100 proof and thus need to buy some more DF)...

They won't because loads are high over the Xmas break. You've left your Xmas bookings pretty late ;) Later Jan / Feb is soft for QF normally as they have such a high skew to corporate travel.

Pre Xmas shopping trip maybe to NZ! The kiwi peso is looking decent at the moment ;)

QF sale & bonus points will have me booking additional trips....long w'end in HK or SIN is wetting the taste buds...yummy:mrgreen:

The ad's in today's paper state that Qantas "will shortly be announcing further measures as an apology to affected customers". Wonder what they have up their sleeve...

A few years worth of our dividends!

I'd like a good J seat international deal, very much doubt it though!.

There have been some previous double SC promotions where I had a number of forward bookings, some booked 6-9 months out like JohnK does too.
I rang QF to let them know that it appeared that I was going to be overlooked in the promotion because I had already shown my loyalty via my bookings, and those folk who needed inducing were going to be rewarded. My question - did they want people to cancel & rebook? If cancelling, it presents an opportunity for compare fares across a range of airlines. But why not reward me & others with bookings with the promo anyway, not just the new bookers.

Next day a handful of SC landed in my account.

Remember, it was also retroactive for bookings already made, recently when QF had a promotion. Can't recall what it was, I'm sure someone here will. (Put my memory loss down to jetlag - up a lot of Sat & Sun night atching things unfold, then had to rearrange my itinerary for Monday as unable to get to SYD to catch my flight to the US. By the time I finished a milk run to my destination I had been on the road around 48 hours. )

It would be nice to have the occasional bonus dished out to ONLY people who have an existing booking. And do this often enough that it encourages people to make forward bookings. (Red Roo, Oi, over here, read this suggestion)

This may or may not be the sale, but take a quick look at Qantas Flights from Sydney | Book a flight from Sydney to destinations across Australia at qantas.com.

Cairns for example, like all other routes, appeares to be a low sale fare for the next 12 months. When I last looked a week ago the fare fluctuated according to season.

There was a sale on last week that ended on Tuesday?, and the sale fares were for specific dates. I suspect that is what you were looking at last week.

I agree, this would be nice if they gave some love to those who have already booked with QF, especially those like me who booked their flights on the day the grounding was lifted.

Unfortunately the idea of dishing out bonuses is to get people to ultimately spend more money than they otherwise would have. Thus to reason all promotions are typically limited to future bookings only. An existing customer is virtually money in the bank. There is no incentive to provide discounts after the purchase. Before you make the comment about the "book with confidence" guarantee, this is a feel good thing only. It is virtually unworkable from the customers point of view, as few people ever continue looking for airfares after they have booked and besides the odds of an advertised airfare being for exactly the same fare class as you seems remote.

You miss my point. The sale fare for specific dates from SYD-CNS was $189. The fare is now $189 flat throughout the next 12 months.
