Qantas Sale?

You miss my point. The sale fare for specific dates from SYD-CNS was $189. The fare is now $189 flat throughout the next 12 months.

Oh. The fares I have seen, on the routes I am likely to use, are just the normal fares :-|

Jock28 is almost entirely correct - I had a look and apart from a price spike over Xmas and New Years I am seeing mostly $189 and then $159 fares accross the board for SYD-CNS sectors.....

Two things spring to mind:

1. I am glad I don't own a tourism related business in Cairns right now - what a horror show for them......

2. And in the QF booking site - how annoying is it that you can't "turn off" or hide all JQ flights in the flight bookings stage?

An existing customer is virtually money in the bank. There is no incentive to provide discounts after the purchase.
Perhaps not these days. Personally I have been progressively cancelling confirmed (paid) bookings on Qantas flights, that I had in December, and transferring to Virgin - taking advantage of their extended promotion. I am also unwilling to believe the Qantas spin that its all over, until I see both parties agree to sign on the dotted line! However if arbitration is forced, then I am worried about "non-protected" industrial action occurring. i.e. the presumable reason that Qantas closed the airline down immediately, after issuing a two day notice of lockout, as this alleged “safety issue” will not have magically disappeared if either side remains aggrieved. Plus, looking forward to Virgin matching a Qantas premium fare sale (if it happens), as there are a few bookings which I am holding off, as I might  aim to requalify as Velocity Platinum now! (Thanks to their extended 2xSC offer. :))

The ad's in today's paper state that Qantas "will shortly be announcing further measures as an apology to affected customers". Wonder what they have up their sleeve...

It's interesting that they seem to have something in mind for those 'directly affected by the grounding'. I wonder what. I wasn't in that group, but I was in previous weeks affected by the unions strike then not strike.

Yes there are always going to be some customers who cancel bookings, but typically once a booking is made as far as the airline is concerned it is a done deal. Not many people will cancel a confirmed booking and move it over to another airline, if nothing else cancellation fees stop that from happening.

I'm the same, I was not directly affected by the grounding, but I did have flights cancelled on me. Didn't exactly enjoy sitting there the night before I was suppose to take an early flight working out alternate arrangements after so carefully picking flights which was going to get me to where I needed to be on time.

So you don't believe the Qantas spin, but you are following the advice given in the union spin ??

There's no way the union would take unprotected industrial action - they coudn't afford to, financially, and QF could then sack those that took part - so I have very happily just made lots of bookings with QF for the next few months, with total confidence. The industrial action is over, one way or the other. :D

A few years worth of our dividends!

Funny you should mention that. I just got a QAN dividend payment in my account (Thought I was on the DRP previously, but obviously not; although I now am back on it).

I am hoping Qantas can start a sale before the Double SC offer from Virgin Australia finishes, I need to book a MEL-BNE-MEL round trip but waiting to see which airline will get my business.

Like any good dramatic opera, it’s not over till the fat lady sings, and in this case, that fat lady is an agreement that both management and unions are prepared to sign.

Unlike some, my view is neither as a union loyalist, nor a management sycophant. I will listen to both sides and react accordingly.

I think you need to broaden your idea of what “non-protected industrial action” might be. Why do you think “wiring problems” made headlines? Police probe Qantas

There is only one thing certain  and that is - there is no "certainty" until BOTH sides say there is!

Oh, I think different. Combined those three unions represent less than 20% of the total QF work force - minority, tiny & insignificant are a few things that come to mind when you see just how many employees they represent.

Your suggestion that deliberate sabotage is the next logical step is disgraceful & very dangerous & hopefully you will have the good sense to edit your post immediately.

My "suggestion" -LOL. I posit that any reasonable person, might have the same worries.
  • QF CEO advises that he has received death threats.
  • QF Board authorises shutting down an entire airline immediately, rather than waiting out the 2 days notice given prior to a lock out, citing "security reasons".
  • Independent journalists, in multiple media, run a story about mysteriously cut wires on a Qantas aircraft.
amaroo thinks dk4 should edit the post... ROFL

But why not reward me & others with bookings with the promo anyway, not just the new bookers.
I have been saying for a long time there is no reason, I can see, why any airline offering double SC promotions to an individual could not also include existing bookings.

It would be nice to have the occasional bonus dished out to ONLY people who have an existing booking. And do this often enough that it encourages people to make forward bookings. (Red Roo, Oi, over here, read this suggestion)
I have 15 return bookings between now and the end of March. That is a lot more bookings than the vultures waiting to pounce, who QF are trying to entice with their promotions, will give Qantas during the same period. In fact most of them would have already booked flights under the Virgin Australia promotion and would not hesitate to book with them again if they offered another promotion.

Interesting. According to live tweets from Alan Joyce at the Senate enquiry this morning, Qantas will be announcing "next Monday" what they intend to put in place in order to win back customers...

Seems to be some cheapish prices turning up in search results. Found BNE-PER for $199 in February, so maybe a sale coming.

I have noticed some cheap business class fares appear BNE-MEL for $969 when they are normally over $1200.

Economy prices seem the same.

Possibly a reaction to the VA Business startup?
