Qantas Status Credits when flying Malaysia Airlines

I am sure this question has been asked a lot here but when I did the search most of the post were dated 2-3 years ago. I think QFF has new rules since then so was wondering if someone can help me.

I am planning to book Perth-Bangkok-Perth, travelling end of this month. Qantas-Jetstar flights via Singapore is double the price of Malaysian Airways via KL.

I was wondering if I booked Malaysian airways do I still get status credit and Qantas points or only if you buy QF flights operated by Malaysian Airways do you get the status credit and points?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanking You

If you are booking MH economy flights then you need to check the booking class as the cheap MH flights do not earn with QFF.

If you go to the Qantas site, there is a Status Credit/Points Calculator you can use which includes other airlines such as Malaysian Airlines.

Sometimes there is extremely good value in QF SC earn on MH flights
Probably not the PER to KUL leg but your onwards flight out of KUL might have some decent earn.

May I piggy back on this thread please.

I flew SYD-KUL-HAN on 1 Sep in Z class. SC for the SYD-KUL arrived on 3 Sep to my QF membership. No sight of my SC for the KUL-HAN sector yet. Do anyone know how long it will take for these SCs to get to my QF account?

I've done about 20 MH Z legs over the last few years and in my experience, they consistently post on Mondays (usually lunch time) for flights Saturday-Friday the previous week. Your second flight may have just missed the cut off. Check your QFF account around 2pm Monday!

(I actually flew MH Z on Friday 31/8, SCs posted on Monday 3/9. I also flew on Sun 2/9, those SC haven't posted yet)

You will earn QF points and QF SC while flying MAS, but at a lesser level than QF via SIN.
As above have mentioned, you have to check you are in an earning class, but don't be surprised if the earn rate of QF points and QF SC is small.
Edit: this is especially on the Au - Malaysia (KUL) sectors.
Ie, if you flew MH business, you will earn QF points and QF SC at full economy rate, if you flew economy, you will earn at discounted economy rate of QF points and QF SC rate.

Its a real pity that QF treats MH with such disdain, considering MH is part of OW, and that QF don't fly direct to Malaysia themselves.

Didn’t the earn rates all change when MH had all their financial problems a few years back? I would guess that MH pulled back on their contributions to the alliance.

It's good Z class is now posting regularly. I've had to submit online claims for it, last time I flew on that fare was 2015.

They were always poor between Oz and Asia from when MH joined *O ... Simpler and Fairer™ made it worse

Thanks Sbor90 for the info. We missed each other by just one day it seems.

MH SCs arrived a little later than usual today - they just posted for both my partner and I. Did yours come through?

As @serfty has already mentioned, the OW* earn rates on MH were always poor for QFF's. Although I do seem to recall netting 120SC's on a SYD>KUL flight in J once upon a time.

I would understand QF's reasoning on routes that QF service, but in this case QF does not fly to anywhere in Malaysia.

They do fly to SIN though (which is not far away from Johor Bahru) and treated as a competing route.

Same with QRs DOH being treated as competing with DXB for QFs (now only codeshare) flights.

I can only assume the extra hatch treatment of some of the MH Business class fares reflects their pricing.
