I you have, say, an itinerary on QF BNE-xMEL-SIN-BNE all in O class and if you click the [ > Upgrade ] option, it will come back with BNE-MEL upgradeable showing the number of points required with [ > Request Upgrade ] and the other segments showing "Upgrade not available".
This is how it came up with mine - 8000 points to upgrade for SYD-BNE.

Also I just phoned expedia BR and came across an English speaker, but he said their systems are down and they can't look at any itineraries and to call back in an hour. :(

-e-

And called back around midnight their time and did not come across an english speaker. There seems to be a trend here :p

I'm flying tomorrow on a cheap .br SYD-BKK flight and with the booking through expedia I booked a dummy hotel to get the booking fee waived - I'm just wondering if I need to cancel the hotel somehow that I'm not planning on staying in or if I can just not rock up. Any experiences with this? I think there were a few people who did the same dummy hotel booking with no intention of actually staying there.

Just forget about it!

Just saying, some nice 'O' fares on ITA for QF from MEL/SYD/ADL to SIN, next year, from: AUD$330. Type in a Brazilian city like Rio or Sao Paulo in the "Sales City". Would make a nice short getaway near the end of the summer hols, if you can find a Brazilian travel agent able to ticket it for an Aussie traveller...

No, I am saying the domestic flight is upgradable, which if the option is taken means Qantas can then do the changes in the booking for you and not speak Brazilian!

markis - great tip. Would this work as long as at least one sector has an upgrade request in, regardless of whether domestic or international. For example, if I have booked a business fare ex-Europe, if I put a request in for an upgrade to first on the DXB-MEL leg, that would then let QF make any changes?

It only needs one sector, I discovered it when I had to change my SIN trip at Easter to this weekend thanks to a quick DXB jolly.

Did I read correctly in that once you've started your trip you can ring Qantas to change the return? Thus bypassing expedia.br?

I'm doing MEL-SIN on Satruday, my return is not till Cup weekend but may change it...

this is true with many tickets, once the trip has begun the airline can make changes.

Great to know. I don't need to change the outbound - but good to know I could if I needed to!

Called at 10 this morning; found someone who spoke english. All was going slowly, but seemingly progressing at least. He asked which date I wanted to change to; put me on hold. Asked if i prefer direct or transit; put me on hold. Asked if a $150 change fee was OK and then searched for prices; put me on hold.

45 minutes later I am waiting on hold and I don't honestly know what happened, but somehow I was disconnected. ****!

I don't know if I can be bothered playing this game anymore. What do you think will the differences in cost be if I wait until I fly the first segment to change my return flight with QF directly?

Welcome to my world!!!!

Changing with QF directly after the first flight is taken, I believe will depend on fare rules but for most cheapies will be $100 change fee + $80 phone service fee + fare difference.

Trick being to do it when there is a sale on ;)

The other question I am wondering about, do QF charge a $100 change for infants as well when changing a fare for the adult they are travelling with? Given, unlike many airlines, they charge fuel fines for infants (unless booked through .br ;) ) I am assuming so.

Are you taking the accommodation option and booking in a few months away dates?
ITA has similar prices for both July and January. So I was looked at .br Expedia, but no, not at the accommodation packages. Was thinking of staying with friends

If you book accomodation Expedia don't charge their booking fee, so $375 is the fare which includes a night in a dorm at Bugis or Batam that you most likely won't show for ;).
