QANTAS takes A380s out of circulation [and reduces flights]

Surprised not to see capacity cuts to japan other than a 747 being replaced. I’d maybe have expected BNE-NRT and SYD-KIX to get the chop.

(also want a change fee waiver on BNE-NRT)
 
So if I read right the only A380 route is SYD-LAX? And also assume withdrawal of 747’s delayed for the time being. Maybe they will last into 2021.

If I saw 747s still flying to the US, I'd jump on that. So miss them. Read some article saying Business in the Dreamliner was better than the 747. No it isn't!
 
They've picked the A350 and Airbus have a pretty full order book thanks in part to Boeing's problems so their power to negotiate a great price on a very limited production run on a special variant of the A350 for Qantas will be limited I would think - but I think that they would have already agreed to a price so as the QF board had all of the facts to see if the numbers stack up for Sunrise before they press the go button.
They would have been given 'a' price they can present to the board as a baseline worst case price, as part of the Business Case but this doesn't mean Qantas has 'agreed' to it.
 
Would all this be due to a collapse in forward bookings, or Qantas being proactive, or just an excuse to end use of A380s earlier?

I am booked in F on QF 8.

This was the A380 now changed to the B787. As I understand it the B787 has no F, only J.

A few questions if anyone can assist:

1) I assume that I will just be reallocated from my booked F seat to a J seat on the same flight?

2) As this was an award booking will they automatically refund the points difference between F and J?

3) Any chance that I could get bumped from the flight all together?

4) Would I still get access to the F lounge in Sydney?

1) Yes or rebooked on alternative service
2) Probably not automatically. You will need to chase for them
3) You could be rebooked on another day or service via other destinations
4) No. your ticket (unless booked say via LAX in F) will say business class (unless you hold OWE/ WP and above)
 
Happy for Perth to double down, am looking for a flight early Aug to LHR so it might just work out for me, I did miss some cheap Qatar flights a few weeks ago at approx $5.2k return, will see what comes up with this new flight coming in, shame it is going to change back in Sept, got another trip planned in Nov
 
If similar timing on QF1 (arrival into LHR around an hour and a half later than QF9), it may avoid overcrowding in PER lounge?

If the timings are similar it could be perfect as will be able to work all day, drop the car at home and then go to the airport
 
From the extensive Qantas media release re its flying cuts, Mr Joyce says 'we're asking our people to use their paid leave and, if they can, consider taking some unpaid leave given we're flying a lot less.' He prefaced that with ',..we want to avoid job losses wherever possible..'

This may leave the door open for redundancies, but the bit that's unclear to me is whether in time, staff will be forced rather than requested to go on unpaid leave.
That well may have to happen, and I suspect that QF will not be on their Pat Malone as this thing progresses...
 
I'm affected. Am booked to fly SYD<->LHR in F in May. A tad devastated I'll miss out on F on board and I'll also miss trying out the new F lounge in SIN. Be interesting to see what is offered to me instead: J on the rerouted QF1 and QF2 or F on EK or another partner airline (not BA please!)

I'd say timing would remain as slots at LHR would be unlikely to shift.
