Qantas to allow free changes, cancellations to Classic Flight Reward bookings to 30 September 2022

I have an international classic reward booking (an OWA) where want to change the last leg as J availability has now appeared on a different flight. Manage my booking online does not allow me to make the change. Does the current waiver to change fees apply to the Reward Assistance Fee of 7,700 points?

Note that, "Service Fees will not be applied when changing Classic Flight Rewards booked for travel in Business or First class."

For changes to economy classic rewards, I believe you can generally get it waived if the change cannot be made online, which applies to OWA's and most multi-city itineraries.

This has been great for me as I have booked and cancelled about 5 flights - best cancel the last couple and see if I can change another one
First time poster here with a question in relation to the fee free flexibility policy. May I ask, were your flights that you cancelled/changed booked recently, and on Qantas or partner airlines?
On Qantas' website states international flights booked before 30/9 (which I did but not on Q but KLM& Cathay) but further down says only Qantas flights... call centre gives conflicting responses. Thanks for any clarification.

In my experience having cancelled and changed multiple flights, any Classic Reward itinerary is fee-free, including partner airlines.

Have only just read your very helpful replies, thank you.
First call centre staff this morning said only 4,500 to change/ cancel and flexible did not apply to partner flights..??
Called 30 minutes later, very helpful Benny clarified that it applied to ALL CR flights booked before 30/9 regardless of airline flown.
By this time, we had decided to cancel our inbound flights booked yesterday as they were not ideal, and I wanted to have sufficient QFF points to rebook.
Again thank you

This is a dumb question, but does cancelling award flights online refund you the fee component in cash or do they try to give you credit unless you call up? I'm scared to try the button 🤣

It will come back to your credit card

As my CR flights had a few date changes due to Covid with taxes added/refunded, I always ring the call centre to clarify tax amount before cancelling.
Also, I don't initially mention the word "cancel", just ask to check tax component.
If it is straightforward with no changes and your flight hasn't been "archived"
(where I was told, "cannot refund taxes as I can't see them!") should be okay to do online.
I had no issue with domestic but for international I choose to call.

I rang QFF saturday 30 september and made an easy ( !!) change to a booking.
Agent was from Hobart.
I asked about the fee changes and she told me that the points deduction for changes only applied to new bookings post 30 september 2022.
She seemed pretty sure about it !
Anyone else heard this - would show a bit of sense as I see it .

I've made online cancellations of award flights and always received the taxes back to the credit card I used in booking. I'm not a trusting soul so I keep a spreadsheet record to cross-check.

I cancelled a reward booking this week and they refunded the 14,400 points. Did not get slugged any cancel points fee. Does that come later?

Domestic or International, and booked after or before 30 September? International booked before 30 Sept should be free to cancel now, but I suspect your booking was domestic in which case it sounds like a glitch.

For that points I'm assuming it's Domestic but their website is not discussing domestic. I'd just keep quiet because normally they come out before they refund you

Has anyone seen this before? I've cancelled a classic rewards booking over the weekend. The points have come back for 1 passenger but not the other. Is this something that happens sometimes and the other will come through at some stage or am I going to have to join the Qantas phone line roulette.

Regardless I'll give it a few days before ringing up in the hope it resolves automatically.

Yea. Believe it is a known issue.

Happens quite often; you'll have to 'phone.
