This has come at the perfect time. I was just waiting for the day that I could award rebook and have something to look forward to. If mid next year it’s going to fall in a heap again it won’t really matter.
I’m doing a multi sector booking sector by sector by phone and it will all be on one PNR. If it needs to be cancelled just before departure it will only cost 6K points or whatever at that time.

QF phone operators are doing very few new bookings so you can get through to them in one minute and they are being very helpful and taking their time answering questions. I have started my booking and will now phone to add every sector as it becomes available, without change fees. It’s satisfying at this moment.

The QF info page (link above) is clear that the booking can be for any travel date, so long as you cancel by 31 Oct. Unfortunately it's less clear about whether partner awards are covered!

Of the two reard bookings I cancelled, one was with only QF flights and the other was with CX and EK flights (ie. no QF flights), both had the 6k cancellation waived

Great! My points haven't been returned. I did have partner airlines booked in, so wonder if that's the case. I'll set an alert when my 6 weeks is up to follow up the refund of taxes!

Interesting as I've had the opposite. the Reward booking on partner airlines had the points returned the next day, whereas the QF only flights is still outstanding two days later. I wonder if its due to the flight dates? the QF flights were in November, whereas the non-QF flights that have been refunded first were for August.

Let me know how you go, as this sounds like a good solution to my planned multi sector trip that was to have happened this year. Where are Qantas up to in booking next years re-booking by phone?

I’ll report back what happens. Still nothing today but I’ll continue to check.

Great news.Multiple bookings cancelled, QF and AA metal.

Awaiting points return and cash return.

I have a classic flight rewards booking Perth to Melbourne return. I get error 66002 when I try to change the dates. Anyone have any ideas?

Call up Qantas tell them you have an error and you can’t do it yourself see what they have to say for themselves. They will speak to you once they know you’re not ringing them up to harass them about a refund.

I have a points booking made late Oct 2019 for a multi destination /multi airline business class trip to Europe via Thailand, Doha and onto Milan starting 28th July. Returning via Vienna, Doha, Tokyo Sydney late Sep.
So far Qantas have cancelled the Doha to Milan leg, but have left all other flights as are. So basically it’s a boat/ train/bus/walking trip through Middle East to get to Europe 🤔🤬...lol
Been on the phone many times, but wait times blew out to a few hours so I hung up. Online say will still charge cancellation fee, as the flight Jetstar to Thailand has not been cancelled as yet.
I didn’t take Qantas up on their earlier offer to cancel before end of April, without losing points. I was naively hoping international travel restrictions would be lifted by Aug, and I would only need to change the first leg of my journey.
So I will now investigate if I can now cancel my entire trip with their current offer....
I will let you know how I go as I have a combination of Jetstar, Qatar, and Japan Airlines. I’m not sure if Qantas will make this easy on me or not.

You don't need any offer, nor to wait for the Jetstar flight to cancel. You have two options... either keep the current booking but find alternative award seats DOH-MXP, or, cancel and get a full refund of points and $$ paid. Cancellation periods/times/offers don't apply where the change is involuntary.

I have 3 x refunds that have been running for more than 65 days and was initially promised 21 days, then 45 days and now still no sign of refunds. Emails & complaints get the usual disingenous pro-forma replies....
For what it's worth, Qantas cancelled an international flight in March and I immediately requested a refund. After six weeks I sent an email to the "magic" email address, but received no response. After eight weeks I rang the customer service centre, said I had been waiting for two months, and received the refund within a week (email confirmation within a day, the actual money a few days later).

Cancelled flight today and points were returned straight away with no penalties. Just need to wait for dollar component to be refunded.
Wasn’t expecting this but money component has been refunded already. Checked my card and funds retuned one day after cancellation. Some background, cancelled online for a flight to Hong Kong at the end of August.

Just cancelled my flights for October 10 Madrid to Singapore online - the cancellation stated fees will be waived.

Just time to wait and see how long they take.

Has anyone got a cash refund for taxes and surcharges? I only have the voucher option but would prefer cash.

I have a First one way flight x 2 to LHR via Singapore on BA using Qantas Classic rewards in early August.
When trying to cancel online I only get the voucher option and a flight credit of AUD $1005.24
Where do you see the option to cancel without penalty ?

I believe my CC was refunded the Taxes on my cancelled Reward booking. And pretty quickly too I might add.

Just as an update;
1) Classic Reward booking for travel in August with *only* partner airlines (CX+EK) - 6k cancellation waived, points returned next day, taxes credit to CC the next day also
2) Classic Reward booking for travel in November with QF Flights only - 6k cancellation waived, points and taxes still outstanding after 5days but booking is removed from "manage my booking"

Interestingly. I've not received ANY emails from QF about cancellations for either booking.

Yep my bookings have disappeared from MMB, but no refund of points or $$ as yet, and No email confirmations etc either.

ISTR a quoted “10 business days” for it to happen.

Did you request the cancellations ?
Online or via the call centre ?
I'm still only seeing a Voucher option online.
