Bit the bullet and booked award flights to NZ in late Oct. Let's see whether this travel bubble goes ahead!

Cancelled the first two of my bookings. No option to select any form of refund, it just went straight to being canceled. The booking were entirely working North America so perhaps that makes a difference? Will go ahead and cancel the rest but definitely prefer a cash refund to my CC for all.

All cancelled now and none offered any choice or button to click indicating refund would be as a credit voucher. So expecting it all back on my CC.

Now we play the waiting game to see how long the points and cash refund takes.

Just cancelled my flights for October 10 Madrid to Singapore online - the cancellation stated fees will be waived.

Just time to wait and see how long they take.
So I just called Q to discuss how long the refund process would take as I wanted to use the points and taxes for a new Classic Reward booking even though the refund is 'in progress' - can be done via the Call Centre (also of note I was answered in < 1min).

Now to figure out the new Domestic Booking for September instead of Europe

Two weeks later and MMB on the QF site still not showing the Refunded FF points from the November trip cancellation, and no indication of the Taxes refund on my CC card yet.

Does anyone know how this will work if you've commenced flights already?

Just to close this out - received my refunded FF points today, so this one took from the May 25th to 1st July for QF to process. no refund on the credit card $ yet.

Pleasantly surprised to see approx 750k of points land in my account today. All 12 lots of 6k point cancellation fees waived too and all were on partner airlines. A tick for QF with this one.

Still waiting for the $$ to land on my credit card. Hopefully not far away.

Great news.Multiple bookings cancelled, QF and AA metal.

Awaiting points return and cash return.
Yep my bookings have disappeared from MMB, but no refund of points or $$ as yet, and No email confirmations etc either.

ISTR a quoted “10 business days” for it to happen.

Points landed back today.

I did reach out via DM on Twitter two days ago so whether that had any impact. I also pointed out I wanted the points back ASAP to rebook for domestic travel and they offered to assist offline if/when I was ready to book if the refund points hadn’t landed in time.

I am about to cut my losses and cancel a one World Award beginning in March.
Has anyone had the experience to simply cancel online and not get charged 5000 points or do you need to ring and cancel to avoid the point charge?

I cancelled my Japan trips in January 2021 about 2 weeks back. I just did it in manage my booking by clicking cancel. All points were refunded to my account within 5 days, and I was definitely not charged any cancellation points. Still waiting for fees and taxes to be returned to my credit card.

Ta for that.

Does anyone have any recent experience of how long it takes for charges to be refunded back to the payment card for taxes etc?

I cancelled some flights back in mid-August and the card I used was subsequently cancelled prior to this. I've called Citibank, they claim that no refund has been received on their end and to check with the merchant. Before I bother hanging on the phone for ages to QF (inevitable I presume...) to confirm the refund has been processed, just wondering if anyone else has received money back yet from around this period...

I'm in a similar position (except my original Citibank card was recently changed from Visa to Mastercard), and would also be interested to know...
