Qantas to fly Melbourne-Jakarta

Partly funded by the Victorian Government and Melbourne Airport under their aviation funds.

Always good to have some competition. If I’m paying I’d probably prefer GA as they offer a better product but hopefully QF has plenty of award seats like SYD-CGK to take advantage of

QF used to have plenty rewards seats SYD-CGK but they’ve gone MIA along with SIN and others 💁

I haven’t checked lately but that’s disappointing if so. CGK is a great transit point and often cheap J flights to Europe so was a good use of points
That’s how I know… Been looking at ways to leverage some QR, AA and AY J fares. There was loads of J reward seats a few months ago and now nothin much post June 😔. Not even much in whY.

But at least it looks like the new MEL flights are loaded.

Even the introductory "sale" fares for Y at $900 seems a bit extortionate

Indeed - TK often does one stop fares from CGK via IST to lots of destinations that start from $3.6k...

QR is also pretty good (starting from $3.9k), although the choice of destinations is more limited.

Makes sense, with Garuda's struggles. Effectively replaces the GA CGK-MEL service that operated prior to March 2020.

I will need to do a status run this year. This has always appealed to me through SYD from MEL, now with direct looks better. Is the valuation good for a status run?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

GA still has 2x weekly MEL-CGK
Oh I forgot they recommenced that one, they didn't restart DPS, getting the two mixed up. I guess between the QF and GA services it is almost back to the frequency that GA used to operate (5 or 6/week IIRC, or maybe even daily at some point).

GA operate MEL-CGK on Sunday and Thursday and operate MEL-DPS on Saturday
