Qantas to keep FRA till October 2013; BA Singapore codeshare to continue

Not seen it mentioned, but presumably the loss of FRA as a destination on QF metal would eradicate the very well priced S7 codeshare to DME? I was really looking forward to taking advantage of it when I next flew to Europe, so I hope there's a way it will still work through S7!

Very good point. S7 and Russia are in my very long list of travel wants.

We've flown it (SYD-FRA-DME)! Actually this was one of my thoughts about them cancelling QF5 too but I figured I was one of the few. A longish transit in FRA (you can go out and get breakfast & lunch). The JAL lounge serves as a good arrivals lounge in the early morning :) then try to hit the CX lounge before it shuts in the afternoon. Not sure what would happen if they had to change it, they'd probably reroute SYD-xDXB-LHR-FRA-DME - sounds exhausting!

Presumably at which point they will switch to oneworld hub Berlin, flying from Australia via Dubai, perfectly timed for Brandenburg's (latest new) opening date on 27th October 2013?

(Berlin obviously being the key German destination NOT serviced by Emirates from Dubai.)

With the latest tie for AB with Etihad and the new relationship with Air France and KLM who knows which alliance Air Berlin end up with. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-news/mad-monday-begins-air-france-43915.html

What would be nice is either a PER-DXB or BNE-DXB on the new Qantas 787, then a short DXB-BER or FRA on a Qantas 787 could be possible.

The big problem for Qantas is the cost of staff compared to other airlines, why do you think Jetstar are basing a couple of A330s out of Singapore

I doubt it, I'd still pretty much wet myself if QF flies to Berlin.

 you must fly to Germany fairly often.

If anything they should be moving to Berlin to link with Air Berlin, or encourage Air Berlin to fly to Singapore and code share from there.

AB doesn't have many long distance routes, plus they don't have that many routes across Southern Europe from Berlin.

I think it would be nice if SIN-FRA is a QF route they keep. Or do S7 fly to HKG or BKK or SIN? In which case we could connect there instead?

S7 fly to HKG (well a codeshare on GH anyway) and BKK, but not direct to DME, you have to change at OVB (Novosibirsk), so not the best way to get to Moscow but good if you want to maximise your segments.

S7 also fly DXB-OVB , but if you want to get to Moscow easily, changing at DXB and using EK fly DXB-DME with the A380 and B777 (the current schedule for next year arriving on QF9/1 will see an overnight stay at DXB and departing at 9:35 so not a great connection, the later EK flights (and whatever it's QF codeshare number will be) would only have a 4 hour stopover at DXB.

Who are GH and would it earn status with QF?

Otherwise AY via HEL are probably the best bet

The schedules into Asia are still under development and will be changed within the next month. Currently I the only changes that we can see are MEL-SIN and SYD-SIN

Do we get any hints as to this? I assume ADL-SIN suspended, PER-SIN down to 1xdaily and BNE-SIN downgraded to 330?

I suspect the next changes won't occur until ACCC / other clearances come through (assuming they do)

GH is Globus - A subsidiary of S7 - see Globus on wikipedia), but with a S7 filght number so your would earn points on your QFF account. I don't really understand why what I would have thought would be one of S7's busiest segments is not operated by S7 mainline

You're correct via HEL on AY is a good option (however connecting through LHR is also a good option to maximise miles and still have good connection times). Another is CX on select days of the week allowing a one stop from Australia to DME on two days a week (CX207 - Sun, Fri)

I'm glad there will still be a BA codeshare running SIN-LHR. Will they also do the same HKG-LHR?
Was just browsing the QF site for Sandy updates, and noticed this on the Major Disruptions page. Note that while the HKG codeshare on BA is ending, the wording of the re-routing options implies that the BKK-LHR codeshare will remain after the EK tie-up is scheduled to begin (in addition to SIN).
