Qantas to Launch SYD-AKL-JFK (June 2023)

They are the same size as the regular PJs.

All of the millennials at my work tuck their scrub top in, not for me but each to their own.
I love the color and design of these. Nice change from the grey ones.
Turns out the RV sleeper suits are HUGE (look closely at the models, particularly the upturned sleeves and baggy, baggy fit) and with recent Qantas Marketplace order....

"Qantas in-flight sleeper suits come in two sizes, the smaller size is an M/L and the larger size is a size L/XL.

You have been sent the equivalent standard Qantas in-flight sleeper suit size as per the below.

S/M orders receive the smaller sleeper suit (size M/L)
M/L orders receive the larger sleeper suit (size L/XL)

If for any reason you are not happy with the product you received, please do not hesitate to contact us (blah blah quoting your order number) and we will arrange a return and full refund at no cost.

We apologise for any invoconvenience caused.

They have never had S/M in business PJs
I assumed the marketplace sizing was wrong when I saw them advertised.
Onboard QF 3 we were offered M/L or L/XL

really dragged things on. I'd probably fly direct from DFW next time.
That’s actually a good tip, not something I would actually think about before booking, we will adjust our plans to come home via DFW or even HNL to break up the journey, that last Tasman leg would drag a bit.

Yes, there are 2 sizes. A choice of:

- too large, or
- too small

Qantas Marketplace offered S/M (out of stock) so M/L ordered as reasonable alternative given J grey kangaroo sizing experience.
Supplied L/XL is ginormous and totally unsuitable.
Marketplace should have clarified inconsistent sizing (per apology shipping insert) as obviously already known, otherwise why bother offering free return and refund.
Special, surprise birthday gift ends up dismal F. A. I. L.

The M/L are fairly roomy. Probably on the bigger size of the J PJs I have had.
Long body/ sleeves. I can only imagine what size the L/XL would be.

It was very poor form for the sizing to be wrong on marketplace.

What really peeves me is when they hand out pyjamas they always want to give me the larger of the two sizes just because I'm a male. I'm 5'10 and BMI in the "healthy" range, so the smaller option fits me well. About 50% of the time they give me uphill telling me they have a limited number of the smaller sizes. Ok, so what? I want one. That's my size. Why are they making a big deal out of that?!

What peeves me about the pyjamas is that they try to dump them on everyone in the cabin. I don't want any and won't use them. The entire thing is annoying and only ties up the toilets for large periods twice during the flight for people to change - blocking them from anyone who *actually* needs to use the rest room.

I’m always given the largest size due to my *footy player* build.
Upside to this, I’m often moved to emergency exit seats, especially on Dash 8s and SAABs “for operational” ( weight and balance) requirements.
Guess all that time at the gym is worth it.💪

Mattg's article was a good summary, but why is he still using inches when Australia's been metricated for 50 years?

There are cheaper alternatives to QFi between SYD and JFK, such as Philippine Airlines via MNL, while Singapore Airlines offers a popular alternative via SIN.

No mention of a typical return fare in Mattg's article either.

And so much discussion about pyjamas above, incredibly unimportant given one's own garments brought from home are just as if not more comfortable, and can be easily stored in a small case or backpack brought on board. Usually I discard airline pyjamas I've received after one or two uses as the material is too 'hot', or they're ill-fitting.

How about concentrating on service levels onboard (an aspect re which QFi receives a much criticism), quality of the food and its presentation, and punctuality and reliability of QF3/QF4?

QFi has a lot of problems with the last two aspects, including with B789s, as the 'cancellations/delays' thread on AFF shows.

Apologies as I didn’t update this with my QF4 flight.
Excellent service at JFK and had the F host escort from check-in through security to the Soho Lounge.
I have been in this lounge before. It’s excellent, really nice decor and space. Much better than the old Flagship which is now the Greenwich lounge.

The sector to AKL was fairly uneventful except for the breakfast service. It seemed to take several hours. Served from the back of J to the front. I normally eat breakfast and then get changed back out of my PJs but I realized as the service went on that this was not going to be an option here.
I got my breakfast tray served to me about 7 minutes prior to the top of descent !!!
Profuse apologies from the CSM and I’d put it down to a bit of an inexperienced new NZ crew on the route. Definitely not the normal breakfast service.

The transit at AKL was absolutely awful and I likely wouldn’t do this again.
There are two screening lanes. The transit passenger load at 0600 far exceeded their capability to screen everyone.
Randoms walking forward to the front of the queue in the mistaken belief that there must be some sort of priority for QF4.
QF ground staff trying to call out QF4 pax to the front and then we were screamed at by AKL security for skipping the queue.

Absolute shambles. No time to go to the lounge for a shower etc. Straight back to the gate once through.

I’ll do it again if I am staying in AKL or the transit experience improves but not otherwise.
QF 3 was much better through AKL.

Maybe worth "arriving" into AKL and then "departing" via immigration arrivals and departures procedures rather than via transit screening?
I did consider that belatedly. But definitely worth considering.
The only issue is the intense Biosecurity screening of all your belongings that occurs in NZ.
The queues for that can be massive depending on the time of arrival.

I agree that it can take some time. We overnighted in Auckland over the past two weeks, using QF3/4 to get to and from Auckland, and then up to and back from Samoa on AirNZ. Both times clearing NZ customs and biosecurity took longer than I expected, especially if there were 3 or more flights arriving at roughly the same time. There was a lot of building work going on, repairing the damage from the flooding. Last Sat afternoon, there were six flights arriving within a 45 minute window when we arrived. It took us at least 1 1/2 hours to get through.

I wouldn't risk going out and trying to get back through immigration and border security in time to make the Auckland to Sydney leg - way too many potential delays

The transit in Auckland is not a great experience at all and just introduces delays - on the way over on QF3 we got through reasonably quickly but on the return QF4 we saw huge delays - fortunately and totally out of the blue we were escorted from the aircraft door to the lounge by a lovely Qantas ground staffer - who even asked what coffee my wife wanted and that was waiting for her by the time we got to the lounge. We jumped the line at the security checkpoint with her navigating us through - it was amazing service - no idea why we got selected for the VIP treatment - maybe I looked old and confused and she took pity on us?

Still no idea why that occurred as all I asked was what way to the lounge? We certainly enjoyed that experience - but clearly they can’t do that for everyone

Speaking of New York to Sydney next month we’re trying the Singapore Airlines Newark to Singapore to Sydney route on the “longest commercial flight” at just over 19 hours for the Newark leg so that will be interesting to see how Singapore Airlines handle the long flight - of course we’ll be wearing our special QF3/4 Qantas pyjamas given they don’t provide any! 😉

This is how rusted-on long-suffering QF pax justify to themselves why they keep putting up with the rubbish product that QF delivers, by getting all excited about some cheap PJs. See above re shambles through AKL and all the other QF issues. Not to mention the super-expensive pricing. Much better off going to NY via SIN or HND/NRT or MNL or IAH/DFW etc. Or even LAX from the looks of AKL transit!
