Executive Traveller reporting that "Qantas' Hong Kong airport lounge will remain permanently closed after the airline resumes flying to the Asian financial hub in February 2022."

Qantas' Hong Kong airport lounge will remain permanently closed after the airline resumes flying to the Asian financial hub in February 2022.

While the airline believes there will still be "significant demand" for travel between Australia and Hong Kong, it's become harder to justify having its own lounge in an airport well served by the upscale lounges of Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific, including dedicated facilities for first and business class passengers.

Disappointing news - it was a real trend setter when it first opened. That said, over the years I felt the F&B proposition was progressively watered down and in later years when I've been on a OW flight I've always chosen the Pier instead, despite its rather inconvenient location.

I suspect QF is banking on the many geopolitical factors adversely affecting future demand to and from HKG moving forward, but I'm just speculating.

I think it would just be better for the "local" airline to put on the lounges rather than each major airline competing for space and service in far-flung places?

I went there once in Jan 2020 (at the start of the COVID pandemic). The F&B options were very disappointing. The lounge was very quiet. So I won't miss it.

Unlike the rest of you I have very happy memories of this little lounge... :)
When we flew on vacation to the UK with the babies, we usually went out via HKG and back via SIN. The QF lounge was the first place my nearly 11 year old son ate a banana as he was born during that time of crazy banana prices.. Whilst I am more than happy to use the remaining CX lounges, should I ever fly though HKG again... :-( I will have a soft spot for it.

I suppose the real impact of this is for those who want to use lounge passes or have QP membership.
Yes - the article suggest QF may come up with something... but I'm not sure it'll be worth their while in HKG anymore

Just another sign of the West slowly banishing Hong Kong to history. Sad really. So glad I got to experience the city before all that.

But it’s been declining for a while, so many companies have shuttered their Hong Kong based and moved them to Singers, Bangkok etc.

As a Qf Plat I tended to use either Cx's F Wing or Pier lounges. Whilst the QF Hkg lounge was nice (J standard lounge after all), the food and wine offering was not as good as the just mentioned Cx lounges, imho :)

My last international flight was HKG-SYD, and I enjoyed a couple of hours in the QF Lounge waiting for QF128. It was also my last chance to fly on a QF 747, up in the bubble, so the memory will live long.

But like many I prefer the Pier, although it can be a bit of trudge getting there from some arrival gates. However, as others have said the changes in HK politically will deter me from going that way in the foreseeable even if only in transit through HKG.

I'm not sure it's the West that's doing anything. Movement is coming from elsewhere.
