Mostly errors on every search. Did find one SYD-LAX in First (Oct) but it errored out. Can't be bothered anymore.

I managed to snag QF1 first class award. Error occurred when I went to enter cc details.
I do have a booking reference just no payment made or points deducted as yet.

I now have two bookings that got through to the payment stage then died.

Both are again showing in my bookings, waiting on hold to see if I can pay for the first one and can the second, might be here all day.

P.S. There seems to have been a significant release of CX award seats overnight across multiple routes ex-AU and time periods this year.
Be warned CX cancelled my award bookings to the US late last night. The booking was made in September last year for travel in June this year. So far they've offered no rebooking. And given it's an award flight I suspect they'll simply dump me.

I've been scrambling over the last 12 hours to organise replacement flights.

Looks like the dates I am interested in for LAX/SFO have been blacked out, perhaps school holidays. Have to depart 3 days later to get a business seat.

also checking alaska air and AA but looks like they aren't getting any of the seats

They are. On AA you have to call. Check the onemileatatime post, multiple people have called for first class and got them via AA.

I made it through but nothing looks to have been loaded ICN-SYD for anywhere near when I want it

I still just see the same, Qantas flights available short notice (next 90 days or so) and all the rest is Jetstar codeshare. That said - is there much of a difference between Qantas A330 and Jetstar 787? Same legroom, similar reliability. Might just bite the bullet and book the Jetstar ones.

Managed to get to the payment stage for SYD-LAX in J in September, put my card number in... and then it errored out. (Was trying for ADL-LAX but when I did manage to get through the only option was through Melbourne, not ideal due to the late arrival.)

I can see the booking in Manage My Booking, but they haven't taken points or cash from my card.

Worst case, I still have a ticket on Fiji Airways to LA booked and confirmed with points, it just arrives early afternoon which means I get to my ultimate destination (Montana) near midnight, instead of around 6pm if I can get the Qantas flight from Sydney.

I'd 100% pick the QF A330 over a JQ B787.

The 2-4-2 layout works a lot better for pairs, unless you're travelling in a group of 3 (as JQ is 3-3-3).

Not only that, but also included in-flight amenities / food / entertainment.
