Qantas to release thousands of Classic Reward seats in Y, PE, J, F on 24 Feb 2023 around 11am

Something feels weird. As a P1 can’t get any of these seats (fare buckets thanks to expertflyer). I should get a shot if F>0 or D>0… ?

SYD-LAX QF11
20DEC F9 A8 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U0
21DEC F9 A9 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U0
22DEC F9 A9 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U0
23DEC F9 A9 P0 J9 C9 D9 I9 U0

SYD-SFO QF73
19DEC J9 C9 D9 I9 U0
21DEC J9 C9 D9 I9 U0
23DEC J9 C9 D9 I9 U0

500 errors

Maybe there's professional award agent developed macros running continuous award searches - or maybe Qantas outsourced IT is running overload beta testing.

... although it seems to be working better early this morning ...

Mid December through mid January is always tough for releases; as are September, Easter and June.

In the event of major website issues (likely), my tactic will be checking availability on Expert Flyer for U, P fare buckets on the specific flights I'm targeting and get on the blower to QFF. Has anyone had experience where EF doesn't accurately represent award fare class availability?

P.S. There seems to have been a significant release of CX award seats overnight across multiple routes ex-AU and time periods this year.

Yep I've just logged on and it hasn't crashed (!) yet.

I just did a Singapore > Melbourne search in my quest to get just a QF economy classic rewards seat to replace my JQ classic rewards economy seat.

There is a business seat on CX, but I'm not sure if I'm prepared to fly from Singapore to Melbourne via HK just for a business seat, lol.

It seems as a bronze member, it's hard to even get a QF economy seat between Singapore and Melbourne. A shame really, because I'm a fan of the A330s 2/4/2 layout. The only options that come up often are JQ (who wants that?! I can just pay cash if I wanted JQ).

There, fixed it for you.
Agreed! "Effective" in that they can create hope and excitement and loyalty amongst its rusted-on customers, despite actually delivering a rubbish product from top to bottom. Look at the positive media coverage on this latest scam, dribbling out a few extra seats on top of their normal program.

Another case-in-point: headline in The Australian:

Qantas sets a date for free high-speed Wi-Fi on international flights

Read on and the date is late 2025! That's over two years away.

Okay I can definitely see more seats available now, still on the search for my Singapore > Melbourne QF Economy seat. Business would be a stretch considering JQ economy is the only option atm.

If you after LAX grab your seats now and think later :)

I went for Sydney and the A380 as I despise the Dreamliner electronic windows that don't darken fully to block out Sun and heat.

Do QF A380s still have the horrid and old 2-2-2 business class layout, or has it been updated to a 1-2-1 layout now?

Looking at the below link, seems that it's still 2-2-2 for some aircraft. I'd hate to have booked an A380 flight which then ended up to be one of the older types.

I'd take the electrochromatic windows on a 787 over an A380 with 2-2-2 layout any day.

Nothing is worse than the Emirates 2-3-2 business class layout though.

Wow Business seats went pretty quick already on the days I was looking at/or Qantas realised they released them early and pulled them.

Good point. Off to check the seat map.

Nope showing 1 -2- 1 for me so all good and no electrochromatic windows.

All A380s back in service are refurbished with the Business Suite in a 1-2-1 layout, along with a refreshed onboard lounge.

Already changed an existing SYD-NAN-SFO in FJ J to SYD-SFO in QF J and also booked LAX-SYD in QF J.

Now just to see if I can pick up a SIN-SYD in QF J or F!
