Qantas to Remove Domestic Boarding Pass Printing from Kiosks

Paper BPs are a must for retrospective claims..
Are they though? If you have them on Apple Wallet you can go back and view expired boarding passes and use that to file the claim. I've even got Apple Wallet boarding passes from United going all the way back to January 2020, this despite me having upgraded my iPhone after taking that flight.

Yes have done this a few times. Handy if needed.

Qantas does not offer an equivalent for Android as far as I'm aware.

Which is shortsighted as there are more android users than iphone users.

Ive not tried to save QF boarding passes but my google wallet still has an old Jetstar boarding pass, as the last Jetstar flight i took gave me no option other than to use a mobile boarding pass.

However having seen QF boarding passes disappear from the app when flights are delayed eparting, I would always take a screen shot going forward. But still prefer paper boarding pass and will continue to print them at kiosk until they cease being able to do so.

From what I've heard, these new kiosks will be super quick. Scan boarding pass and the bag tag will print automatically, then more if needed. Then complete.
Excess baggage payments will also be done on your own device, by scanning a QR code and taking you to a payment portal.

That's great - if you have a BP!

A few yearss back I tapped "yes" to having dangerous goods while not paying full attention during OLCI. Now back then I just saw some friendly staff in the area of the kiosks who manually printed me a BP once I explained my error and earlier in the hread have covered various other situations that may mean someone may not have a BP when they arrive at the airport...

My last few times through MEL I've not seen any friendly staff monitoring the kiosks or being there to manualy print BP's or other things. Yeah maybe a desk was open further down in the terminal, but it's certainly not like it used to be.

Also what happens for a pax who has trouble with the bag tags?

when having to queue for a manned desk may result in a missed flight will be interesting.

So it will be the same as what you would do today. Same process.

Major QF airports have hired into the hundreds in recent months

The same as today and the past 10 years.

Well they may have hired, but I've not seen a lot of staff at the front lines in check in areas over the past couple of months

of course we are in extreme times of staff shortages.

guess we'll see how things go :)

This thread makes me nostalgic for the days of the old fashioned boarding pass printed on stiff paper.

They always made really good bookmarks for the books I was reading on the flight !
Guess that, in the end, its just QF not wanting to spend money.
If you take an indepth look at all their procedures of late, its all to do with saving money, or not spending money.
But fares do not go down.
Who knows, one day, they might even remove that little slimy bit of paper that pops out of the gate when you or I scan our QTMC card to enter the plane, after having done OLCI (if it was available on that day).
For Kiwi_flyer, lucky you still had the service desk.
Aren't they/weren't they going to be removed too?

So long since I have flown QF!
Just as to clue up/remind me again, on the QF website, if I don't want to log into QF account, while I am not in my home city, to be able to print out a BP at home, if I enter my PNR and surname, into does that take me to log into my QFF account, or does it bring up the booking linked to the PNR.
Its "book a trip/manage bookings/use flight credit..."
I am waiting for a new "smart" phone, with 16gb of memory, my current one is stuck full of app already with 8gb, so can't add any more apps to it.

A question related to the push for 100% OLCI compliance ;)

Can you cancel/change a flight after checking in? Assuming your fare class is eligible of course.

I tend not to check in at T-24 in case things change, but I’m wondering if my fears are misplaced.

Yes. I always feel a bit cagey relying on it though since the cancel button can grey itself out for strange reasons forcing you to call and if departure is imminent we all know how that scenario plays out.

You can also undo the check-in by clicking on the 'Not travelling anymore?' link on OLCI/the app. (edit: however this doesn't cancel your flight, it just reverses the check-in, and you're able to check-in again should you wish)

You can check in just by entering a PNR/last name. This will either take you directly through the check-in flow or take you to manage booking where you can click the 'Check In/Boarding Pass' button. No login required.

Yes; I have had to do this twice over the last year. Both times using the App; once about 90 minutes out from scheduled departure. I shudder to think what would happen the the cancel icon was greyed out.

Checked in earlier on the app for a straight foward domestic flight in the morning, now boarding pass has disappeared and says check in at the airport.

If they cant sort the IT to fix these issues then there will be chaos when the kiosks go.

They have removed computers from inside the QPs around Aust too, havent they?
Due to anti covid/reusing space...
But of course its really about not spending money, on IT in these computers/staff to manage these (former there) computers.
Those computers used to be able to print stuff too.
CL probably still have them.
