You know what - I thought it would look silly but in my opinion it actually looks pretty good.

Agreed! I think the 737 fuselage is a big part of the reason it works - because it has the same nose as the 707 it helps it look "right".

While I agree it looks great,
sadly they have seemingly used grey paint on the lower part, rather than the original bare metal (like AAs old livery)

They don't seem to have added the name on the plane yet. I can't help but think that a little picture of a bow tie underneath would be apt.

That 747SP with the bare underbody is amazing!!!

Probably works inline with the current ad campaign that relives a bit of that nostalgia.. a bit of positive brand sentiment never hurts!

This picture of the aircraft shows the name 'James Strong' (if you strain your eyes you would be able to see it).

I remember when that scheme was in regular service! Reto indeed.

As a mate pointed out, perhaps a dash8 with spinning props as the James Strong bow tie would have worked.
