Qantas Travel Money changing to Qantas Pay - May 2024

The only fee is if you're transferring from a debit card (0.5%). I don't think there's any other fees with Qantas Pay.

Most of the other providers sting you just for having a card active.

The debit card fee must be new, im sure it was free until recently

Hasn't been free for a while although occasionally they do promos plus I think the first load on the account is free.

Edit - It was in February 2024 when they moved to EML that the fee was introduced.

Few things to keep in mind: new changes,
1.now there is a 0.005% fee for taking from a debit card, used to be instant and free (in the past), ie if you move from a debit card for $50, you will be charged an extra $0.25.
2.there is also a chance the transaction will be declined, even though your debit card account has funds in it!

Real downside of the card, these 2, but only reason to keep the QP is to keep the QFF points alive, for those who do not have a "real true credit card/amex" card.

The fee is new.
Had been free up to a few weeks ago, end of last month I think it was free.

The fee certainly isn’t new but they go through promotional periods where the fee is waived

When I last used the card this time last year, the fee was certainly there. They do, however, have numerous promo periods where the fee is waived (I wouldn't be surprised if the fee is currently being waived during the current offer, but don't quote me on that). I often waited for these times to transfer money over.

Curious why you'd wait rather than do a bank transfer, which is always free?

Interesting that others have said that immediate transfer fee was aways there.
I have done the $50 transfer from my debit card, and the funds has always been in my QP account there and then, and never involved that fee.

Maybe its the other way around, the current BSB is taken over from Heritage.
New BSB and if account #, would mean its new onto EMLs account info.
They (EML) probably can make money out of this, in many facets, some of which they do already.

Heritage is in the process of merging with People's Choice Credit Union to become People First Bank.

It could be they're at the stage where they're going to start changing the bank account details for Heritage/People's Choice bank accounts and this is part of that migration.

I have a Qantas Pay card, have started loading it in preparations for our next OS jaunt. All good.
When I realized that you could only have 1 card for the account, I decided to get a Qantas Pay card for my husband, under his QFF profile.
The system had a hissy when I first tried, and the system said try again later.
After MANY attempts to sign up for the card, I contacted QPay, they could see the account, and funds still sitting on his old Qantas card. (about $250.00 in various currencies) They said the old funds would move to his new card. Great had not even known about those funds.
When I said I can't get the system to approve his card, they said, no problem, I will tell the system to send you a new card in the mail.
Now weeks later, and still no card, and no account showing when logging in, only options are "more info" and "sign up"

QPay called again last night as they keep saying it is a "technical issue" and asked permission to try and send a new card, failed again.
Offered $100.00 to go on the card as compensation for all the calls and lack of getting the issue fixed.

They can see the account, I can't. System wont issue a card. This has been going on for weeks.

If QP wont work, and you want a card for overseas travel, that is not a "true" credit card, there is the BankWest debit Mastercard.
This one will let you spend using your own money, so there is, as is the QP one, no debt to owe the bank.
You will also earn interest on the Bankwest card, plus points for balances in it.
Just need a deposit each month of $2,000, ie, pay/wages/salary, or transfers into it.
Can you transfer the $250 out?
With most banks now, they have that fob system where it will send a code to your fob, for card security purposes, QP does not have this, tho they have that Mastercard thing, where they will send a code to phone, for certain transactions, but only some.
With one of my banks, I can lock overseas transactions off when I dont need it, lock ATM access, lock online purchases, and only allow in store purchases.
Another good thing about the bank account side, not QP, is that after travel, you can transfer the transaction card balance to the online saver account, leaving the transaction account with a $0 balance, so card scammers who are overseas will get declined each time they try something.
QP, at that time by Heritage Bank, said they didnt need to be informed of overseas travel!
Other banks say, that we as customers, have to inform them of overseas travel.
On the no points earning card use system, there is the Auspost travel Mastercard,

I have a Wise card as backup for my husband. I do 90% of payments when O/S, this 2nd QPay card was just so he had some "cash/$$" on him should we be separated.
We are away for 3 months, so I have to have a system in place. I liked Qpay as I could easily transfer $ to his account.
But with the lack of service getting this issue sorted, I will just stay with Wise for him.

Going back to QP, sorry for the waffly: I think that the service has also gone downhill since EML took over.
Many times now, transfers to the QP via my bank account, via payanyone, now takes more than a day, previously, every transfer took just hours, ...
Yesterday, about noon I transferred funds across, and still up to now, no notification, checked account balance, still the same.
Usually, if I do a payanyone into QP by 12noon, it would be there by 4.30pm or so.
Tho, someone on here mentioned a new BSB for QP, so maybe that is the reason for the slowness.
Maybe should go with deposit from a debit card, and just bear the 0.005% fee, used to be free at one time a while back.

After the first transaction to the new bank account, maybe after a week, subsequent payments should go through faster.
