Qantas trials 'all day check-in' for international flights

I don't see myself checking in that early and then lounging around at airport.

Would be very different though if Qantas had downtown checkin, like CX in HKG.

Now that would be a great service offering by QF, setup a checkin service at Central station. Though most flights leave morning ish, so probably not that beneficial.

I wonder how such a service would work.

A road service would be susceptible to the risk of torrid traffic around Mascot, and I would imagine it'd be hell and high water before Cityrail allow Qantas to second a car on the Airport line for luggage cartage.

You could likely mitigate some of these by offering stricter check-in cut offs (e.g. 2 hours beforehand), which can include overnight (not same day) check-in...by this time it might be getting rather unwieldy.

Might be a reasonable idea if HLO...on second thoughts, that's what we have mobile check-in for, let alone totem poles (and Advance Seat Selection beforehand).

I wonder how the said service worked in the golden years when it was so offered.

They could set up a Central-to-SYD flight* that you can book (and pay a bit extra for) as part of your itinerary. I think people would happily take that :D Extra credit if it earns SC too.

*with QF number operated by ****tyBuses or ****tyRail.

Just wondering if Qantas are still allowing all-day check in for international flights? If so, is it just from Sydney or has it been extended to Melbourne as well? thanks.

There's been no announcement that it has been removed but to be sure I would call Qantas. When I did this last November the agent I spoke with and the supervisor she referred to both had no idea about the 'trial' but the supervisor rang someone at Sydney Airport who confirmed it was in place.

It isn't applicable in Melbourne.

Has anyone had any recent experiences at SYD intl re: early check in?
Myself and a colleague are flying to WLG on the 1750 service tonight, I was hoping to head to the airport just after lunch time which would probably be 4-5hrs before flying, mainly to get a bit of quiet time in the Flounge (I've never been to SYD F!), enjoy a late lunch and get some quiet time for actually getting some work done before our flight.

I couldn't find anything online re: whether the early check in trial still stood.

Appreciate any insight, apologies for digging up the old thread.

We did similar timings last week - you'll have no problem. Enjoy.
