Qantas-Uber tie-up

My point is that pre-booking is imo mostly pointless because it doesn't guarantee the driver will be there any quicker than if you order on the day. In fact, some colleagues have waited futilely because the driver who accepted the job in advance then ended up not being on time due to other jobs not being completed in a timely manner or deciding last minute not to work.

Booking on demand gets you a driver already available in your area, pre-booking means the driver may have to commute to your area.

So what if they have to commute? They accept the job knowing that.

YMMV of course, but i see no advantage except the possibility of disappointment.

Each to their own. My experience in over a couple of dozen airport pre-bookings has been nothing but positive and stress free. Each time the driver has arrived before the requested time.

Calling on the day is just stressful with drivers cancelling etc etc. You land up needing to start the dance a solid 30 minutes before you'd really want to leave to cover those contingencies.

Each way has risks...

Booking in advance makes people FEEL in control...it has NO bearing on whether a Taxi/uber is in the area or IF a driver will accept the job or IF after accepting the job they will turn up.

Most of the time a pre booking will be sent to the drivers in ample time for them to get to your address but it guarantees nothing.

Just like having a plane ticket for a flight...

Not IME, have never waited longer than 10 minutes for an uber.

A devaluation coming. Changing to 1 point per $2 dollars for airport trips. Uber reserve trips (which in my experience are more expensive) remain at 1 for $1

"With your Qantas Frequent Flyer and Uber accounts linked, earn Qantas Points with every eligible airport trip.* You will now earn 1 Qantas Point for every $1 spent on Uber Reserve rides and 1 point per $2 spent on all other rides to and from eligible airports*"

I don't know why they bother with this. Total earn possible is so little in the grand scheme of things. Surely the few points on offer don't drive any extra business?
Yes, if it was all rides could earn, then that would be quite different.

Agreed. I’ll use it if I’m Ubering to the airport, but it certainly has no bearing on my decision whether or not to use Uber in the first instance.

Agreed. As it stands now if Uber was a dollar or two more expensive than DiDi the 1 point per dollar would tip me over but now I wouldn't even bother with Uber.

This is the first time I've even heard you can prebook a trip with Uber. I've always just opened the app when I needed a ride and never seen anything in there that let me prebook a trip.

I think the bigger issue with Uber re QFF is the lack of consistency with posting points.

Prebooking price is nearly always more expensive
