Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Upgrade for this lucky gent on tomorrow's QF82 from SIN-SYD was confirmed at T-28. Being allocated my favourite (& obviously still available) suite was an added bonus.

I noticed the confirmation came from a source other than the mobile number I had registered in my phone as the 'QF Upgrade Fairy'. This one came from a source with no discernable number, and displayed as: 'QF_FFOPTMD'

Cheers,
Matt.

I had the same source.

Opining on the meaning for the displayed code - QF Frequent Flyers Optimised :D ;)

Is this just for SMS's received outside Australia, perhaps the number can't be displayed and this is inserted in its place?

Possible, if it's a recent change to how they do it. My outbound upgrade was confirmed after check-in at the SYD F Lounge, and so no SMS then. My last points upgrade prior to that came from the mobile number I had expected, while I was in Singapore, in late Feb.

Cheers,
Matt.

My upgrade SMS came from QF_FFOPTMD also with no number. It was to my Australian Mobile as i havent left yet.

Likely a system change of some kind then... now, back to hypothesising about what the acronym stands for... hmmm... maybe it's "QF Frequent Flyers Often Pay Too Many Dollars"? Seems right, to me!

Cheers,
Matt.

That's not bad - were you upgrading from discount (usually 10K) or flexible economy (usually 5K)?

From Flexible.... Just wanted to see what the lowest win would be. In this case $40=2000 points... And I earn 2k points from this trip, which cost $568 return.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF7 SYD-DFW, paid W request to J. Cleared at T-0.5hr as a bronze. It was showing F1 and J0 at T-1. Check in agent said my chances increase if I board at the last minute in case there are last minute drop outs and it paid off.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

QF25 Y to J at T-29 as WP

Every class seem to be wide open J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9L9 V9 S6

QF2 DXB-SYD no go Y->J

Apparently wasn't put on the airport list because I didn't select W and J for upgrade choices (plat one desk said you don't get onto the airport list unless you select BOTH W and J on a 388).

That was weird about what is required to get onto the airport list. Have others experienced this?

They were correct. You should get a pop up message when you select airport upgrade.

I'm not sure about this at all. I don't think you need to select both W and J to be eligible for an airport upgrade.
I'd be following that one up.
I know that you are ineligible if more than one pax in the booking and also that they only apply to the second sector on a through booking e.g. SYD-DXB-LHR on QF1 should only be Airport upgrade on DXB-LHR.

Maybe the process has been 'enhanced'.

Just put in for an upgrade from Y to J for QF 93 this week.

Ive put in upgrades before & ticked the box that asked if I'd take an upgrade at the gate.

I didn't see that option this time and yes, I'm travelling solo.

I actually cancelled, and put the request in again, as I thought I'd done something wrong.

So now.....does that mean I'm not offered upgrade at the airport ??

TQ
