Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Successful Y+ to J on QF1 tomorrow. Got a text at T-28. Had given up having not had a notification at T-48 which I'd come to expect being since being Platinum but got an unexpected text at noon today. Too late to book a chauffer drive but my status clearly was the difference between success and failure; because all but one other seat in the cabin was taken.

As in apply for an upgrade on the return? I still could but won't because I won't have enough points and I'm stopping over in Singapore - for 24 hours; so I will just endure Y+.
I think she meant could you get CD from Heathrow (given that would be a day later). Presume the answer is no because the CD option wouldn't even come up for you.

Enjoy your trip.

I have never once received the SMS's often mentioned in this thread, for a successful upgrade. I've only been able to check my upgrade status by logging in to the QF app or "manage your booking" site and seeing if my seat assignment has changed.

I notice the official wording on the upgrade page says that Qantas "may" send you an SMS to confirm it, so I'm guessing they don't care to receive any complaints on this point.

My phone number is up to date in my QFF acccount, and I have gotten SMS's for other reasons, such as delayed flights, so I don't think it's on my end. Any idea what gives? Current status is WP but that shouldn't matter I don't think.

A SMS saying not successful? I did not know they did this.
Ah yes, I’ve had them twice this year (MEL/PER on the A332 in Feb springs immediately to mind mind). They certainly let us down gently - still better to know than to hope all the way up to the BP reader that you’ll get a “beep”, a red light and a new BP.

I had assumed upgrades to the gate might still be a possibility, and on some routes there could be many changes at the last minute that could open up seats. So I'm surprised at this. Perhaps it is only sent when someone is well down the queue!?

That sounds very feasible - as a lowly (Lifetime) Silver, there are likely to be quite a number ahead of me on the list for busy routes and particular flight departure times. I’ve been lucky lately. But a lot of people save their points for long haul or family holidays - not me (I’ll use AA points for that)

We were successful in Y+ to J on QF28 last Tuesday, SCL to SYD. Upgrade came through about T-24 (or a little earlier) as I checked my QFF account and noted that points had been deducted. As the flight was 4 hours late and we sat on the tarmac in SCL for three hours, it was a godsend. Got the text message well after we had landed in SYD. :)

What are the current T minus times that upgrade notifications are coming through? I saw T-28 a few posts back but are there others?

I think T-24 (or anywhere within) remains standard. Supposed to be T-48 for WPs and T-168 for P1s and CLs. Can confirm the P1 timeframes still work.

These may be international only.

Last Sunday, my J--->F upgrade on QF2 came through at T-60 hours (similar last year) rather than T-48 hours as expected as a Plat. Having said that, a couple of years ago, I got a beep at the gate at Dxb notifying me that my upgrade from J --->F on QF 2 for Dxb-Syd sector had come through, having been unsuccessful on the Lhr-Dxb sector..

I’ve just had my W to J request approved on QF15 BNE to LAX at T-60 for 2x pax as WP and SG. Now to wait and see if the LAX to JFK sector comes through as well! I received the text message.
