Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I am wondering if Y+ Gold trump Y WP to score the J upgrade. Any thoughts anyone?

Presumably Y+ with any status trumps Y to J as it enables Qantas to collect points from two upgrades instead of one:

Flex Economy -> Premium Economy 26,100
Discount Premium Economy -> Business 71,900

vs

Flex Y -> Business 71,900

Yea mathematically it s clear what Qantas could do to max their rev, yet the pecking order is meant to be by status, so wondering if we have good evidences of one or another.

Out of curiosity, was there an option to upgrade to PE?

Yes, indeed there was.

I upgraded to J in both directions - I had an embarrassment of points, so 27,000 points/seat plus the original $350 fare was an amazing bargain. I think it was 19,000 points for PE.

13/7 JNB-SYD QF64. PE to J - denied at T-9. But OpUp at check-in.

3/8 JNB-SYD QF63. PE to J - successful T-36.
WP, traveling solo.
Very nice - both ways on some long flights! You may find though that if it’s an op-up on a flight you had requested an upgrade on, that they will still take the points once they catch up. I’ve had that happen ex Asia to Australia a couple of times. That said, it’s largely addressed now with the ‘upgrade until the gate’ option, so if they didn’t deduct already, you might be in the clear.

Cheers,
Matt.

Oh well... No dramas if they deduct points, but it's 4+ weeks ago now. Probably safe.
Regular miles/status credits showed same day. And double status credits 24hrs later.
Was a v full flight. I didn't select 'upgrade at gate' option... I guess no-one else did either, and I just got lucky.

Ok - if you didn’t have that option selected, then even more likely you’re good on this one ☺️

Cheers,
Matt.

Any reason given? That's pretty poor form.
No reason. Haven't got to the airport yet. Went to check in online rather than through the app as i have a connecting flight with BA, and in that process I noticed i have been dumped into 48H, and my original seat is unable for changing to.

Edit: resolved at the airport. Check in staff doing a good job as usual.

14/8 Success at T-60 2x pax SYD > SIN QF81 from Y to J.
WP and Saver Y fares.

Hoping for the same on 20/8 returning on QF82 (with flex Y fare) but not super confident with the higher loads on this flight...(J4 C4 D3 I0 showing on EF at the moment)

Not an upgrade, but I noticed there is now U4 on QF36 SIN-MEL on 21/9. EF availability is J9 C9 D0 I0, a full looking cabin. So I booked one seat, and immediately it changed to U0. Now it has sprung back to U4. What is going on here?

Trying to fill every seat with points for seats rather than upgrades.

WHat’s the Y loading look like?

I’d have said J9C9 still plenty of seats (1/3 of the cabin) but they presumably think they’ll get higher airfares - its school holidays. And U4 might allow for a family of 4 to book holiday flights (or someone cancelled some and they’ve re-released them).
