Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

27/7 QF2 SIN to SYD upgrade failure again. On the positive though I had exit row and am back to WP for the domestic leg to MEL. This year I reached LTS as well.

Edit: Exit Row to MEL as well now.

If they are available the transfer desk can have discretion to give them, I guess. Especially on a full flight where someone will have to sit there. It was after all only about one hour before departure. Anyone looking to buy one would have bought it already. Due to the late arrival my domestic leg was changed at the transfer desk to a later flight.

Does anyone know if a OWE passenger would have any priority at all for upgrade requests, or would it be ranked equal to or even below a QFF Bronze?
i didn’t think non QF FF can request upgrades (If that’s what you mean)?

It can be requested using the upgrade a family member function, but given that it's dependent on the travelling passenger's FF priority, it's not clear to me whether or not being a non-QF FF could actually be worse than being QFF bronze.

Ah, yes I see what you mean. Interesting one. Curious to see if others have views on that scenario.

It’s your own QFF number and status that is used for the upgrade so no OWE on another program will not affect this.

Requesting from a P1 family member etc means that the upgrade has the highest priority but is processed at the time that the members QFF tier would be processed. There is no non QFF tier priority.

25/7 - QF81 SYD-SIN Y -> J Fail (but snagged 23K and no baby next to me)
28/7 - QF72 SIN-PER Y -> J Success. Cleared just inside 3 days and I only requested the upgrade the night before.

30/7 - QF5 SYD-PER Y -> J Successful at T-29 for two people, Silver and OWE

Flight availability shows J1 after upgrades processed. Unfortunately this experiment gives me no clues as to OW status pecking order.

10th Aug QF5 SYD-PER Discount Y to J success at T-28, for two people, Silver and Bronze.
NB Very limited seat selection available.
Out of curiosity, was there an option to upgrade to PE?

7/8/22 - success (T-24 or so) for two on QF2 all the way from LHR to SYD as QF Gold. Had been booked on an expensive Y+ fare so feel this might have helped score the upgrade on a rather full flight. Noted some spare seats in First.
