Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Fingers crossed it comes through.
Although in the period 2015-2020 my strike rate for upgrades QF9/10 & QF1/2 was only 50% as a WP
Thanks. Had success J to F as WP MEL-LHR return in 2017. Y to J to HKG but not to return flight as WP in 2016 and MEL-DRW-LHR Flex Y to J return as SG last year. Also a few return SYD-SFO upgrades one from Y and the other from premium economy with multiple different status levels. So I haven’t applied for too many upgrades, but I have had a good strike rate.

First time in economy to/from LHR (have done to DXB before on Emirates). Haven’t done premium economy yet.

Our company policy (UK parent company) was Economy for all flights, so it was always good to get an upgrade. At least in the old A380 setup, I would have a seat up in the mini-cabin upstairs.

Sorry left out..

The June QF20 from MNL to Syd was delayed by a couple of hours in MNL, absolute chaos on the Tuesday morning with seamless connection queue 50 deep in the Priority queue (hundreds in the general).

Missed my connecting flight SYD to MEL which had been an upgrade to J.. was re-booked on another only 1 hour out and still in J (had to get supervisor authority to take the J seat as it was being held).. agent never even mentioned possible downgrade whilst looking through availability..

I was very calm, polite and empathised with her situation (ignoring my own).. I'm certain "be nice, get nice" was in effect.

Upgrade request Y to J failed for QF1 for the SIN to LHR leg as well. So my points balance is continuing to grow.

Hoping for some success with the flights back next month.

Are you P1? That's one major benefit of getting points upgrades that far in advance so you don't lose out to pax booking full J fares at the last minute. 👍

Yes, I'm P1. Usually book Flex Y and put in upgrade requests. Worked like a charm pre-covid (100% success), but aircraft are so full in the coming weeks...I might have to visit the Y cabin of the A380 for the first time in years!

Forgot to say no success Y to business QF103 Syd to HNL June 4th
Flight was chokkas
I was on that flight in J. Was surprised as there were actually two empty J seats across from me (FA said no shows which was interesting) and we were travelling with Master Chooms who was to swap between Mrs Chooms and I for the flight but he was able to occupy one of the empty seats for snoozing across the pacific. Sorry you missed out on the upgrade though…

Interesting as there was a medical emergency and she was given the four middle seats at the back.
I had noticed that the flight was full from quite a time out
Darn I even put in for gate upgrade lol.

Here’s a review. I’d go for a rear of cabin window. The oars in the aisle seats have better leverage but you get whipped more often. The constant drumming gets a bit tedious up the front.

I escaped the lower deck at the last minute!! Y to J upgrade on QF1 SIN-LHR was processed less than 10 minutes before boarding. It was nice considering a 4AM departure after a 10 hour connection from QF35 out of MEL.
