Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

I use this to bring hope for my QF2 in early Dec, despite of jpp42's experiences... :D
BTW, is it more useful to request for a last-minute upgrade at the check-in / service / transit desk or in a lounge?
Definitely check that you will take an upgrade at the gate
Happen to see a bloke in the lounge in Sydney who was hoping to a business upgrade on QF11 . Saw him a bit later on the flight. He had gotten a gate upgrade to premium :)

Yes, that's all done. I submitted the request in late Sep for J with the options for PE and gate upgrades selected. The question is more around where does it make best sense to check for last-minute upgrades if the original request hasn't gone through. BTW, some airlines sell late upgrades but does QF ever do that?

QF764 flex Y - no
QF 45 flex Y - yes (in F lounge)
QF44 flex Y - no
QF643 flex Y - yes instant on booking
Nb. Confirmed prev exp that using stacked GV results in upgrade requests being 'overlooked' by QF IT system, unless available at time of booking. Have only secured when done manually in lounge.

From Y flex > PE on 16/11 QF1 SYD-LHR as an SG. Got an SMS at T-21.

However, this messed up the special meal request. Nothing loaded from Sydney, and an Y meal loaded in Singapore.

The FA's were very sympathetic and apologetic but it clearly was a QF system fault: dropped off the Y meal when I was moved away from the cabin but didn't have sufficient time for the caterer to load a PE meal. There was also another pax in the cabin with the same meal request who missed out.
It was good to get at least the Y meals from SIN, otherwise the 14 hours might have been a bit downcast.

A friend who holds Plat is waiting on an W or J upgrade for QF1 SYD-SIN tomorrow (from Flex Y).

Flight loads a few hours either side of T-48 were J9 C5 D1 W9 R3, no sign of upgrade.

At T-26 it updated to J5 C0 D0 W9 R0, presumably some upgrades were processed but still no sign on their booking.

It's nearly T-25 and I'm pretty surprised theirs hasn't been approved. Does anyone know if SYD-LHR requests from lower tiers take priority over SYD-SIN requests from higher tiers?

As one world Emerald, never been upgraded on the flights across country Perth to Sydney and back. Mind you I don't really value the minimum offer and accept it's probably never ever going to accepted on that route! 😁

Yes, even as a P1 I was pretty much back of the queue all year when upgrading solely on the SIN-LHR leg of QF1/2. I got most of my upgrades a few hours before departure or a the gate. Looking at EF I could see some P1 being processed at T-7 days ex-SYD.

At T-24 all the remaining J seats got snapped up.

W upgrade came through at T-14
