Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

QF67, SYD-BLR, today 2-July. Success from Flex Y to J as WP, notified at about T-30. Just one open seat on the seat map when checked shortly after upgrade. Would have preferred PE on this day flight to not burn as many points, but alas, it's an A330.

Possibly last time in the F lounge before my Gold downgrade :(

I could be wrong, but the 330 variant (330-200, I think) that is on the QF67/68 doesn't have PE ... ? Reason I ask, I'm going to be on the 330-200 QF35/36 in a few days' time and there is no PE. The upgrade system only shows upgrade to J and the option to upgrade at the airport, not the are you happy to be upgraded to PE if the J request was unsuccessful.

That's correct. That's why I said, alas it's an A330, as there is no PE available. Had it been a 787 (or A380, ha), then I would have chosen PE to upgrade to.

So this is a work in progress. We've put in an upgrade request for flight Melb - Dps in August Y to J. Two WP. When I was tinkering with the booking to change dates I received this warning - does that imply the upgrade has happened as there's no mention of Request.

No upgrades would have been looked at or confirmed, as yet, and so I suspect it's a poorly worded attempt to say this, from the classic reward upgrade Q&As (https://help.qantas.com/support/s/a...-using-Qantas-Points-and-Upgrade-Confirmation)
  • Changes before upgrade confirmation - If you change your flight before your upgrade is confirmed, the Classic Upgrade Reward request will be cancelled, and a new request must be made for your new flight.
Cheers,
Matt.

Success for me for Sunday's QF1, via overnight text. Y+ to J. I'm a newly minted Platinum. A nice start!

I'm currently in Flex Y on the 2nd leg of that flight, not heard anything having requested J with Y+ as fall back. Also Platinum also nothing but a shadow for Qf35 on Sunday.

So got my Y to J upgrade for QF1, 5 minutes later I got a message saying it’s delayed by 24hrs…
Maybe that's why there's availability, J PAX jumping ship freeing up seats

As you know, yesterday QF2 did a U turn around Hungary and flew back to London.

QF127 Syd-HK July 2nd confirmed T48...
QF128 HK-Syd July 15th not succesful. Very frustrating as EF showed the seat map wildly fluctuating and availabilities coming and going even after T72. Ended up being a full flight and, at the risk of sounding very spoiled here, certainly emphasised my partner and I's desires to never fly more than 8 hours in Y again... But I guess thems the breaks when you leave it up to points upgrades!
