Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Night-before upgrade on QF2 2/8/23, as Platinum travelling solo, from a Y+ flex fare. Feeling v spoilt as it's only my second flight as WP and the first was my QF1 trip and I got a 72-hours-before upgrade.

I took a snapshot of the load T 78 Hrs to give an idea:

Newly minted WP today, unsuccesful Y+ to J yesterday on QF10, but upgraded (at no cost?) on Perth to Mel. no sms messages at all re upgrade status.

i have various upgrade requests made as SG for next few flights, should i cancel and reapply as i am now WP ?

finally is it normal not to receive any messages at all when applying for an upgrade ?

thank you

Welcome to Cruise Critic. Firstly, what type of aircraft is your PER-MEL flight? There may not be Y+, hence the upgrade.

Don't cancel your upgrade requests as the date of request is relevant. Your new status will be applied per your QFF number.

No message, neither text or email, is sent confirming an upgrade request. You will see your request noted in manage your booking.

Thanks for the advice. For messages, i meant messages saying whether the upgrade requests have been successful. I seem to receive some but mainly very few of them, is this normal Qantas procedure ? For example, on yesterdays QF10 i had applied for an upgrade, but i received no message to say if it has been successful or not.

thanks again

I don’t always receive an “unsuccessful” text, or it comes well after boarding. Hit and miss, it seems. If the upgrade is a possibility right up to the gate, perhaps that’s why we don’t receive a text.

If you receive the upgrade at the lounge or gate, it's unlikely you would get the SMS; generally it does happen though when you are sucessful [or otherwise] in the lead-up beforehand. In this instance, even if you weren't notified, but ended up in Y+ and had a request in, it is very likely that the points will be deducted sooner or later. Keep an eye on the transactions.

Cheers,
Matt.

thks Matt
on QF10 i booked Y+ from LHR to MEL. Y+ LHR to Perth, but upgraded to J from Perth to Mel when i checked in at LHR. no points deduction no sms. N

Or it is simply an aircraft change and there is no Y+. QF10 sometimes finishes in Perth and passengers transfer onto a domestic flight to Melbourne.
No it was the same plane, just a quick refresh and then onto MEL. I now realise it was Op-Up, never heard of this before !

So here is a new one for me.
My wife and I are booked to Noumea and back in November this year.
When I booked, I put in for J upgrades on all sectors.
Last night, my J upgrade (on points) came through for the SYD-ADL sector.
Maybe it is normal for others, but its the first time I've had an upgrade come through so far in advance of the flight.

We fly to Perth tonight for a funeral and we both got J upgrades come through yesterday. so I plan on enjoying the hospitality of row 1 for a decent length flight.

Having pointed out I hadn't received any comp upgrades in many a year, VIP team came through 2 days in a row!

Thanks Qantas! Very grateful

(Maybe they read AFF?)

Both at-gate, after the machine rejected me for boarding. The lady on the desk said the VIP ones don't come through on the app now, they hand you a boarding pass at the gate, after you've had a heart attack thinking you weren't going to get on. :)

Did you check your app right before boarding? The times I've had one, it says "upgrade successful" - others have reported the same. This is without putting in for a points upgrade.

In hindsight, I probably didn’t. Just went to the boarding pass. Thanks for the tip, I’ll be frantically checking every trip now.
Refresh, refresh, refresh. LOL
