Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Woohoo! :D

Upgrade to J from a Y classic reward just cleared on QF103 on Saturday from SYD to HNL despite J0 when I checked in the flight loadings on 20 November. (Just got to try and get an earlier MEL-SYD flight now to take advantage of the SYD Flounge courtesy of the generosity of @Robert K...)
And got QF104 from HNL to SYD at T-27 as a QPPS too on 1 Jan. Y CR (i.e. X) to business. A bit extravagant as it's a daytime flight, but it was a very comfortable way to while away the hours.

Just need to rebuild the points balance now for my next big redemption in August. ;)

A bit extravagant as it's a daytime flight,
This is an interesting dilemma. You fly a daytime J and "experience" what J has to offer, or you fly a nighttime J and in the ideal world miss what J has to offer as you're fast asleep. It is a little incongruous that perhaps the best value is when you pay for the service that minimises the "experience". Perhaps there are other ways to minimise the travel "experience" at lesser cost!

QF J is about a flat bed - there’s little more to “experience” while sitting upright during the day. Still much more comfortable and I always aim for it, but I agree with @MELso

Y+ to J success on QF93 MEL-LAX @ T-59 as a WP

Only booked it 3 days ago and unusually is an A380 on a Sunday which likely helped. Also helping, my employer has a new travel policy in 2025 which will allow for Y+ bookings if no more than 3k USD above lowest cost Y fare.
Oh man, I had to change my return flight ORD-LAX and during re-ticketing it lost my upgrade.

Turns out you need to call them for any changes once an upgrade has applied (I made the change on the Qantas website) and they couldn't do anything on the phone to help.

Now back in the queue for a T-20 upgrade.

Where is the A380 coming from to make tomorrows QF93? I noticed it swapped from a 787 a few days ago, but I don’t see an inbound aircraft coming in

Y (Flex I think?) to PE tomorrow Jan 5 on QF295 SYD to BKK. Upgrade cleared around T-20h. These Finnair PE seats are a welcome addition to these long daytime flights and represent good value at around 11,000 points for the upgrade. I’m QF WP.

J to F upgrade bid accepted for tonight’s QF12.
Will be our first First long haul. This was the Qantas F error fare which saw us back in J.
Bid the minimum amount, just under $900.
Probably the only time we’ll travel F.
That's surprising for this route. Isn't it that upgrade bids only get processed after all points upgrade requests? And even to have an upgrade bid accepted at the minumum amount, meaning there were no higher bids...
Congratulations on something I consider a rare win, especially on LAX-SYD!

After the first call didn't resolve the issue and T-20 passed, a HUCA call resolved the issue.

QF93 MEL-LAX Y+ to J reinstated including the original selected seat at T-18. Interestingly it is now shown as a Business Classic Flight Reward U class in the booking so I expect I'll need to chase up original status credits and points after travel.

Kudos to the call centre team who also had to HUCA themselves to a higher power until they achieved this resolution.

Pleasantly surprised by an upgrade on QF10 LHR -> PER departing 2nd December. Upgraded from classic rewards economy to business class. Found out at check-in, 24hrs before the flight. I didn’t even bother trying on the QF1 on the way out though.

The first time I’ve been business class long haul and very much spoiled now 😀

Edit to add: bronze status
mind sharing how much it was points wise? have the same route coming up in April, would appreciate it :)
