Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Finally flying with QF again, surprised that for a day trip BNE/MEL/CBR/BNE they were cheapest on all sectors.

Put in upgrade requests for the first and third sectors. Only a Silver member (but not for long) as DSC on these flights will be me to 60 SC’s short of LTG. Next return flight (maybe ADL) should get me over the line.

Got the Upgrade Fairy text this evening:

Definitely available. Did you try @dairyfloss advice to cancel the request and re-submit it?

It should be instant, if it works... you say 'confirmed', but is it actually ticketed? It won't work without this. Depending on how they booked the flights, like through an agency, there are occasions where the booking will sit idle until a certain ticketing date. Could that be possible? Not possible to validate this on the Qantas site (which is ridiculous), but you can search the PNR (booking reference) on some other oneworld airline sites to confirm - e.g. go to BA Manage my Booking > [enter details] > View eTicket receipt

p.s. the three U class coded fares are still available:

Cheers,

Based on what you’re saying, something is not working as it is supposed to. I don’t know what to suggest at this point. HUCA.

Oops - cut the wrong one... there's 3 x U seats on both of these birds :)

Like @muppet said - a real mystery as to why it's not working; and sorry the advice didn't yield the desired result.

Hope it comes through closer.

Upgrade just came through for QF 653 flex Y to J, normally don’t bother trying to upgrade domestic but transcon 737 economy flights are painful especially as they always seem to be full and I’m connecting from another 2.5hr 737 flight today

31/1 QF25 - Y (Saver) to J - Got fail SMS around T-9, but got the red buzzer at boarding and upgraded at gate with points deducted. I believe there were two seats left in J that weren't assigned at T-24 and I think the other one was also filled with an at-gate upgrade.

14/2 QF292 - Y (Flex) to J failed - fail SMS received upon landing at SIN. Got red buzzer at the gate and upgraded to PE with points deducted. Was hoping to try the AY J seat but wasn't holding much hope since J had I think one open + three blocked seats left at T-24.

Not sure if worth noting this... the ticket was booked via Amex Travel AU, and the 14/2 flight was originally QF26 (Y Saver). It was just outside of T-24 of the first flight when I wanted to make the change, so had to call up Amex Travel to change QF26 to QF292 (which required payment of change fee + fare difference, resulting in fare buckets changing), pretty sure I had to put in the upgrade requests again.
Why the change? JL is running an A35K between HND and SIN on the JL36/37 route for a short while (Feb 12 to Mar 29), so I had to give it a try when award seats opened up, haha.

Still waiting on another SG pax in a separate W class booking but with the upgrade requested from WP account

Thanks for the data point - this is relevant to discussion a few pages back on whether a member's WP status affects the priority of upgrade requests for the their family.

Given your travel partner's upgrade wasn't processed at the same time as yours, I guess this suggests family requests are not processed with WP priority.

J9 bodes well for an SG though! 🤞

QF1 SYD-LHR - W to J success at T-60 as WP

Went from 16 unselected seats in J cabin to 10.

Still waiting on another SG pax in a separate W class booking but with the upgrade requested from WP account. Still J9C9D9I0.
Update. SG in separate booking upgraded from W to J at T-28. Points deducted from my WP account. Everyone happy.

EDIT: interestingly when I was upgraded the J seat next to me was blocked and then today the SG was upgraded into the seat next to me. Separate PNRs were linked and when checking-in both names showed up. If that was planned, much kudos to QF - if not, lucked out.

The system knows you are travelling together as one party, so I'd be surprised if a seat was available next to you that it would put the other person somewhere else, but I guess it does happen

Yes agreed. I was just surprised as I was upgraded a day earlier and the seat was empty but blocked (i.e. I could not select it maybe a P1 could) - but then it was given to the SG. It almost seemed like it was planned so we could sit together but probably just lucky.

LAX-MEL 22 august Business Sale Fare available, I 9 - denied

LAX-MEL 23 august Business Sale Fare available, I 9- confirmed
Possibly wrong thread. 😜 maybe the Platinum seat release thread?

You are very right - took about 3 hours of phone calls and computer work this thru so quite elated once it came thru.
Wanted to share the good news but posted in the wrong section.
