Qantas upgrades to a new check-in system ...

Checking luggage is not necessarily indicative of how you checked in. OLCI is important if you care about your seat assignement, and wish to change it. Those of us who are carrion baggage only, will be affected but this.

Dave
In all the times I have used OLCI, I think I have changed my seat assignment once, and that was to move to be seated next to a work colleague. Even as an AAdvantage member, I have been auto-assigned reasonable seats according to my preference of forward aisle, and when viewing the available seats via OLCI there have not been any better seats available.

We all survived (and many sung the praises of) the auto-seating allocation process before OLCI was available, so it no different to then.

I do not see as many people boarding using A4 boarding passes in Perth as I see in the east. Now it may be that many have used OLCI and got another boarding pass in PER, but one would expect the same in the east.

Aside from those wanting exit seats, I don't think too many of your once a year flyers get to hung up on which seat they are in.

Exactly. Same experience here, I think the only time I've moved is to move back in the plane on a fairly empty flight with front cabin fully allocated. (now on DJ though OLCI is very handy, several times I have moved myself to the last row of the plane - after consulting the weather forecast of course - for a quicker exit than the middle).

Even for NB relatives using OLCI the opportunities to move seats has been minimal. If I'm travelling with luggage I just don't bother with OLCI, and I suspect the majority of traveller (who aren't AFF savy!) also don't bother, hence my theory.

Since OLCI, I have moved ~30% of the time ... generally to a better seat, say 7C to 4D on a 73H.

Well I tried to outsmart it, to check in using OLCI for my PER flight leaving today and I got to the seat selection stage, then the dreaded:

Grrr. That's a pretty significant time to be unavailable for!

Grrrr! I just got a call yesterday, and have to do a trip to PHE tomorrow (urgent job..) and won't be able to OLCI for it.. guess I'll need to hope my lowly PS QP status gets me a half decent seat!

Flying up on Alliance actually, on a Fokker 100 but it's a QF flight number.. should be interesting, I believe these are the same planes Sky West fly.

Well, I just managed to OLCI for QF2668 tomorrow....

They are the same. I have not seen it, but was led to believe it is in QFlink colours.

Interesting that my PER-ASP flight on Saturday still hasn't posted points.. wonder if this is a coinky-dink with the new check in system.

My advice - if travelling via PER, hold on to your boarding passes until you see the points in your account, just in case..

Haven't been able to get on OLCI since 9 am - tis now 1pm - for a BNE-SYD trip tomorrow. Been getting this message all morning.

Mine haven't posted either. However, I was able to OLCI on Sunday for PER-PHE, and then today for PHE-PER.

Travelling PER-ADL tonight and OLCI has let me check in , so maybe trial over?

I would say it will be up and down over the period, so have told passengers that it will be down over the entire period so as to not warrant any unneeded inquiries as to why it is not working...

As noted, I was able to OLCI for PER-PHE-PER earlier this week, just after the 'downtime' had started.

I've been lucky enough to have experienced PER departures 3 times over the last month. What a bun fight. 45 minute wait for J check in on the last trip due to flight cancellations and the first day of the new system. Points for all flights had to be chased up as they did not post.

PER QF terminal is a disgrace in every respect. The whole place stinks of hurry up and wait. Perth airport has also decided to move the rental car area to within jogging distance. Several new roads are being constructed to better feed the traffic choke point outside the domestic terminals.Avoid QF 743 aircraft at all costs.

And fix the air con in the club.

I feel better now.

Checked in this afternoon for tomorrows 743 arvo flight PER-MEL using OLCI, no problems.:)

OLCI is only unavailable if there are connections involved:
Bookings - Perth Check-in

If you are travelling from Perth, and connecting to another Qantas flight between 17 May and 26 July 2008, online check-in will be unavailable. Please check in at the dedicated Qantas connection check-in counters located at Perth Airport (Terminal 2).

If you are travelling on a domestic flight to Perth and connecting to another Qantas flight between 17 May and 26 July 2008, online check-in will be unavailable. Please check in at the Qantas check-in counters at your departure port.
