Qantas Wine latest offering

You could pretty much buy a DONE4 for that money, and get more stops, lots more flight options and you'd get status.
Of course. I've taken several DONE4s as a sweet way to WP. Nevertheless, I do buy a reasonable amount of wine each year, and these deals strike me as particularly good value over and above just heading down to Dan Murphys and grabbing some random bottles of cabsav for the weekend.

Sure - if your choices are between Epiqure vs DM, then "yes" - I'd buy these deals from Epiqure. But I think there's much better value (and better wine) out there.

Of course. If one has the time and money to research and sample the options. Or a good local wine merchant, which can amount to the same thing. The local guy is amazingly good in recommendations and stock, and if I were to spend $8K with him, I'd have a bloody good cellar of excellent wine. But I wouldn't have a round the world business class ticket.

I value QFF points at a cent each, give or take. If I were to buy them outright, I wouldn't spend 800 000 cents on 280 000 points. That's a mug's game. I'd get the DONE4.

But I buy and drink wine, and Epiqure's offers represent a good way to get good wine and points.

Just quietly, but I'm not about to order fifty sixpacks of the Taylor's CabSav in a shot. I'll do it a month or two at a time over several years, with the various offers as they come up.

I'll enjoy the wine, and I'll also enjoy the upgrades or whatever I spend the points on.

I think this is maybe where we disagree :)

If you're just buying points, with some ordinary wine thrown in, then "yes" I'd say go for it too. It's a cheap way to get a bunch of points quickly.

But the wine they sell (with the bonus point offers) is usually average stuff, and the QPR is below average. A few times, the wines they've been pushing as "wine of the month" has been heavily discounted via other retail channels, so obviously the winery (TWE or whoever) is subsidising the price, and Epiqure are funding the "bonus points" via this subsidy. You're effectively buying points at around $0.01/point (depending on how many points are on offer). It's one reason I stopped looking at these offers.

I used to jump on all these bonus point offers but have since wised up. I can usually get better wine, for half the price and save my coin for other things (or for buying AA/LM/UA points).

It'd have to be a pretty good deal to get me to jump on it.

Agree.

Used to buy more from epiQure but this year they try to offload too many average wines at full price with 5K bonus points. It's not hard to get similar quality at much lower prices so 5K is not a strong enough incentive. Hope to see bigger bonuses offered as we approach the holiday season.

Anyone have any experience with the Taylors Heritage or Bird in Hand shiraz's? I'm leaning towards latter, but never tried them

Depends on what level they are offering in The Bird in the Hand range as there are 3 levels. The two in the bush is quite nice fruity and spicy. Typical Adelaide Hills cool climate. Its obviously not the top of the range Nest Egg. Check their website as it is a good guide. Cheers Rug

The Chardy is top shelf if that floats your boat - a summer staple in the Kohen villa...worth keeping an eye out when on sale.

Damn, I still have too many cases sitting in my credenza and under my desk - better get drinking. I'm really looking for a 7,500 or 10K bonus point haul, but they may be a thing of the past.
