Qantas Wine latest offering

Agree the T&Cs were hard to find but also not very helpful. "Voucher expires on 31 August 2024." Does that mean you have to make your booking by 31 August or does the hotel stay have to occur by 31 August??

Receiving voucher 24 May will be too late for hotels I need to book for first week in June but would be ok if I can book by 31 August for a trip in November. I guess I 'need' to buy wine anyway so I'll see what happens. 🤷‍♀️
The voucher is applied at the time the payment is made. So long as the payment exceeds the value of the voucher then the voucher is applied.

But if you book a "refundable" rate, the voucher value is not refundable, only the paid cash amount is refundable - the voucher is fortified forfeited. The booking can be made for after the voucher has expired, so long as it has been applied to the reservation payment prior to expiry.

If we can only "buy" breakfast or anything with intrinsic value with those vouchers...sigh. Not that I think western breakfasts have much intrinsic value anyway replace a 5 star breakfast with a b&b breakfast and I would hardly be able to tell the difference

Back then when Jetstar has those vouchers for every flight you book I would always book the cheapest flights and use those to book YMCA types of accomodations and they were to be had at 1/2 to 3/4 retail price those were the heyday. Don't know if they still issue those or what or how the system issues those vouchers since too lasy to fly Jetstar now that I have status

This discussion is about the current offer (valid until 24th April) for a $100 Qantas Hotels voucher when spending $300 (with at least $200 cash component plus points payment) on Qantas Wine. That is worth $100 and way more value than a free breakfast if used wisely.

For example, for an upcoming stay in the USA I have booked at a corporate rate of USD213, Qantas Hotels is offering the same hotel and room type on a refundable rate of AUD307. So at the current exchange rate, not only is the Qantas Hotels rate lower than the corporate rate, but with a $100 voucher it brings the cost down to AUD207.

The difference is that I need to pay the AUD207 now, but the AUD207 is refundable if my plans change and I need to cancel. But the $100 voucher will be fortified forfeited.

So buying in the order of 13000 QFF points from Qantas Wine for $300, and receiving a case or two of reasonable wines and a $100 Qantas Hotels voucher can be a very good deal if:

  1. You want to purchase QFF points for travel rewards redemption or to gain/retain Qantas PC/PC+
  2. You want some reasonable wines thrown in with your points purchase
  3. You can get value from a Qantas Hotels voucher during the window of opportunity (24th May to end of August
My plans tick all three boxes.

Buying breakfast is not part of my considerations - I can find better value breakfast than a hotel restaurant in most locations.

Has anyone ordered Yalumba Barossa Valley Cabernet Shiraz 2017 at the end of last year? If yes, did you get 12 bottles with your order?

They delivered 6 bottles instead of 12 and are looking into this for me, so I am keen to see whether others have the same problem too.
Jinxed myself in my last response to this as I previously ordered and received 12 bottles which had since mysteriously evaporated *cough* so I ordered 12 more and this time only 6 turned up and QF wine are off finding the other 6.

Have had terrible luck with QF wine lately with one case being lost by auspost and now this. Admittedly I'm also a bit cranky at the way QF wine handled the lost case, the PH-based agent cheerily told me on the phone on the Thursday before Easter long weekend that I shouldn't worry as they had plenty in stock, only to get a terse email on the Tuesday that I was out of luck as it had sold out and a refund was coming. Hopefully they didn't burn the QF wine voucher I used to pay for it. Unfortunately the only way I know to find out is to try using it in a subsequent order so I guess I will just have to buy some more wine....

Do tell?

As an aside, I found my QF AMEX cards don’t trigger 2x points when buying QF Wine 🤷‍♂️ But my NAB QF Visa Signature card does - possibly because I flagged it a couple years ago and also received some back dated points!

OT, but QF TI goes through as “AIG Australia” so definitely no 2x points there now and I made the mistake of using an AMEX - that only gives 0.5 pts / $ on “insurance” but VISA is 1:1…😭

Just purchased over the phone with a Wine Adviser .. extra 3k points thrown in. (I actually tried to do this on Saturday, but the advisers only work M-F)

Was going to buy another one but sold out. just got aus baragined 🤣🤣
Luckily bought mine with the 5000 pts offer. Don't know why i'm buying pts for 1.5 cents when i am redeeming it at that value (plus limited award availability whereas i can book any day i want using cash, which makes it seem like it only worth 1.1-1.3 pts for inconvenience). this coming from a person who doesnt even drink wine. gotta love the #fomolyfe

So my phone advisor was in the middle of helping me do the purchase but it was closing time and I had to re-add money back into the card which left me having to purchase using the online option before the deal expires before waiting for monday (last week's offer). Shall I call him to chase up the missing points as well?

It’s certainly up there in some of the better promos!

Feels like $500 ScoMos down the drain because I have to go out of my way to redeem a flight that I would not take if i had points to burn. Although I have been known to occasionally book relatively expensive last minute cash fares (never on business). But in an ideal world I would not be flying if it was not a necessity (visit family friends job education etc.)
