Qantas Wine latest offering

Epiqure do play pricing games at times, ones that border on being illegal. An example of the was the recent Wirra Wirra Sav Blanc I highlighted when it was introduced, then the price was hiked for a week, now it's on "sale" as the intro price. That's bound to get the ACCCs interest soon if it hasn't already.

Well, I received the same mixed dozen. I have emailed epiQure re: the value discrepancy. Perhaps I got a bottle mixed up when pricing, but if not it will be interesting to see their response.

What do your colleagues think of your wine stash?

They regularly see wines being delivered and then me carrying them out (when I go to clients). I open the cartons then put them into mixed 6 bottle cases - so my current cases for selected clients (4 red, 2 white) include:

Chapel Hill Cab Sauv 2011
Saltram 1859 Barossa Shiraz 2012
Mt Langi Ghiran Trevor Mast Tribute Shiraz 2005
Wynns Coonawarra Cab Shiraz Merlot 2011
Wirra Wirra The Good Catch Sauv Blanc Semillon 2013
Trevor Mast Tribute Reisling 2012

Dan Murphy Index

Bin389 / Bin407 / Bin 150
x6 Carton bottle price $67.80
x6 Carton bottle price (discounted Wish Card & Start Here) $60.85

Qantas Epiqure $64.99 + Bonus Points 2,000 (Also Delivered)

Was a great deal at Epiqure...!

huh? DM Bin 389 is $62.90 in any mixed six, and you get a free bottle of Bin 2 if ordering a half-dozen (of any Bin, not just Bin 389). That seems better value than Epiqure (depending on how much you value the 2K points)

Just browsing on Epiqure... they have 3000 bonus points on a case (12) of the 2012 Vasse Felix Cab Merlot for $227.88... PLUS the Penfolds offer seems to have been restocked from last night. I tried to buy at 8pm yesterday and it was sold out however I just got a couple of cases with 2000 bonus pts per case. #Winning!

In regards to the Penfolds bonus points, did anyone that purchased have an issue with the bonus pts not displaying at checkout?

Disregard... Creating separate orders for the Penfolds wine and the Vasse Felix magically got all the bonus points to appear :) 7000 bonus pts for the cases + 8000 points (4th dozen) makes me a happy camper. Although now I need to create another new epiqure account for a family member, soon I'll be signing up my dead dog's stray cousin :/

Just tasted some at Dan's, they didn't have them all on tasting but the new Bin 9 Cab Sav is great and the 389 good as ever (surprising for an ordinary vintage).
Bin 9 - $27.90 carton price
Bin 389 - $62.90 carton price

Cheers

I received an email this morning. Sold out already?

Seems very good value - I like VF so will pick up a case

Thanks for the heads up Orca

Not a worry in the world. I agree, it's a good drop at a reasonable price (bonus pts taken into account).

Don't know anything about the 2012 vintage but VF Merlot has always been a very good drop for the price.

Have ordered a couple of cases on spec, I'm sure they will be a really nice drop

Grabbed a second lot from the Penfold's bin release, this time took the points instead of the 10% discount, since I'm short of points now that there's been a huge stuff-up in crediting my bonus points from the Christmas gift vouchers...

At least the wine (Bin150) will be nice

I'm honestly a bit surprised that everyone is buying up on the latest Penfolds Bin releases. Having tried the range today, they really are poor value for money and some really average wines. My pick was the Bin 311 Chardonnay.

See I thought the Bin 311 was actually one of the worst, I did not taste any oak in it either. The Bin 389 was a cracker, way better than last years.

Wine is such a personal experience thanks to our inconsistent taste buds!

I thought the 150 was pretty ballsy shiraz... Perhaps too full bodied for some, but has plenty in it for 5-10 years in the cellar...

Daver6, especially for the Red's, its hard to judge their full potential from a fresh vintage, I look at these wines as children, some grow up good, some not so....but in general the fruit used in every bin release is premium stuff and pretty constant stuff... Value...? It really depends on your tastes, how much you consume, and your financial position.

For me I buy the 389 & 150 every year (x6) I buy lots of other wine but for a true occasion there's nothing like cracking a premium Australian full bodied red

The Bin 311 doesn't see any new oak. Gets some older French oak.

Agree. The 150 was much more in the Penfolds house style.

I disagree about judging a young wine though. Most wine shows etc are all judging newly released wines. Having done some judging in my time, it was quite interesting having to think about how it might age. My comparisons are in relation to previous vintages of most of these wines.

In terms of value for money, my comparator is to what else is out there in the market of similar style and cost. But in the end, this is what is great about wine. Different peoples perception with their individual likes and dislikes.

Ill be interested to see the 2010 St Henri upon release as well as the Reserve Bin Chardy.
