By "J" you mean Y with a middle block usually

If we had the same number of viable airline punters on the coast-to-coast services in Australia, we might see fares dive quite a bit more, though perhaps at the cost of service quality overall.

Getting towards the end of the financial years, probably looking to boost booking/sales numbers and their bottom line for the year. Why for so far into the future, I've never seen some of these fares so cheap before and would probably be hoping for some punters to lock in a cheap getaway (looking at OOL, CNS, ADL ex SYD) early and hopefully some will either no-show or as the travel dates come closer they'll change their dates and pay fare differences and changing fees.

I'm tempted to lock in some early trips to CNS myself but unsure of my calendar... such a shame this will go to waste for me, those fares to CNS are mouthwatering!

Revenue booked into this year helps figures, happens every year!

Totally understand but there is also the rest of this year as well.

From memory I saw one really cheap sale for Oct-Nov and that has disappeared back to normal prices now.

Manipulation of data, they can use this sale and say they've had strong booking numbers for the start of 2014 as well as have the funding hit for the 2013-14 financial year.

As for Oct-Nov there probably will be one in the next few weeks but not at these prices (3 months before seems like the time when a decent sale for fares occur).

Perhaps school holidays have been locked in and loads are ok... It's a bit of a gamble... Last year I booked early for this period then they had a minor sale including Xmas travel dates and I lost out - however the year before there was nothing at all around summer break!

Then maybe AA next year .. need to really sit down and work it all out, although the fast track security etc. at LHR does make BA seem like a decent proposition. That being said, I do have a direct earn AA Credit Card (AMEX & Visa)......

This is the first time in a long time I cannot find any suitable cheap red e-deals SYD-BNE and vv for Oct-Dec.

Are forward sales really that good? I guess that could be the case with sales almost every day. I just did not think about it too much as I wanted to wait as late as possible to book. By the way Virgin is not much better.

Now got me worried about Jan-Mar next year. Book now or wait?

Wait I think, sales seem to be looking ~6 weeks in advance now so there should (IMO) be plenty of opportunity for fares at the current prices in the near future...and time for a couple of sales with cheaper seats.

Though I am sorry if my advice steers you wrong!
