Qatar Airways Delays/Cancellations

Friday 9 June 2017 sees QR914 (A350 A7-ALA) from DOH to ADL likely to arrive at 1903 hours instead of 1720, 103 minutes tardy.

With rainy weather over Sydney, many aircraft are in a holding pattern as at 2040. QR908 from DOH to SYD (A39- A7-APF) looks to be arriving 90 minutes late at 2110 hours.

On Thursday 29 June, the afternoon 1720 hours scheduled arrival of B773ER A7-BAI has been delayed until an estimated 1810, 50 minutes late.

Thursday 3 August 2017 sees QR904, the Wednesday 3 2145 hours DOH - MEL that took off on 4 August at 0124 (A380 A7-APF) in a hold above Bendigo as MEL suffers air traffic congestion, rain and potentially later some fog (though how bad is naturally unknown) with arrival suggested as 2202 instead of 1840, 202 minutes late.

On Wednesday 16 August, QR908, the 1930 hours early evening Tuesday 15 DOH - SYD that was not airborne until 2155 (A380 A7-APA) was at 1825 hours on 16 just emerging from a hold, so arrival looks like 1857 hours, 137 minutes late. As QR909 is not timetabled to depart until 2120 hours, it should be punctual.

An occurrence not picked up last night - apologies - is that QF909, the Thursday 17 August mid evening 2120 hours SYD - DOH (A380 A7-APC) must have been delayed overnight as on Friday 18 it was airborne from SYD at 0712. DOH arrival has changed to 1503 this afternoon instead of the timetabled 0520 hours, so many passengers with connections would require rebooking and perhaps in a few cases on routes with lower frequencies, a second overnight in an hotel.

Looks like the Qatar A380 are overnighting in Syd. Diverted to Brisbane to refuel, came back down with a 2hr turnaround lined up before curfew but just put in a 30min hold!

Due in 2141. Race is on to get it out.

Sunstar320, great information. The one missing jigsaw piece is that we don't know if 'the delegate' (whom we'd all love to meet) has approved an extension of departure time post-2300 hours, but assuming 'no', it would be incredible if an A380 could be turned around in 80 minutes. FR24 indicates that it will land at 2139, but it then has to taxi to the terminal, for which I always allow (for simplicity) five minutes, but in many cases with international aircraft (and some domestics) it can be onger than that, so in the end this aircraft (A380 A7-APE) may have 80 minutes in which to unload, load, taxi and takeoff.

Of course the delegate may confound us and grant an exemption, or conversely QR may determine that its crew and passengers will be spending the night in Sydney, where due to numerous flight cancellations of QF, TT and VA on busy routes like SYD - MEL, hotel rooms must be at an absolute premium.

Friday 15 September 2017 has seen QR904 from DOH to MEL arrive about five hours late at 2210. It called into SIN on the way. As a result, QR904, teh timetabled 2140 is expected to depart at about 0010 on Saturday 16.

Monday 18 September sees QR904 into MEL again delayed with expected arrival 90 minutes behind time at 1835. Aircraft is A380 A7-APB.

The DOH - ADL QR914 (A350 A7-ALI) is also delayed, though not as badly with arrival predicted as 1811, 41 minutes tardy.

For the third consecutive day due to the ongoing fuel supply problems in AKL - which must be costing airliens (particularly Air NZ and to a lesser extent JQ - a mint), the world's longest flight, QR921 from AKL to DOH is making a pit stop in MEL to take on sufficient fuel.

On Thursday 21 September the aircraft is B772LR A7-BBD. While this flight normally departs AKL at 1455 in the afternoon, it has become about a 1200 'high npoon' with arrival expected today in MEL at roughly 1406.

Media ('The Age', 'SMH' is reporting on Thursday 28 September (mid evening) that a worldwide fault with Amadeus Altea software means passengers are unable to check in. I do not have a list of which airlines use this software, although Qatar does.

'Herald Sun' online has a photo of QR passengers waiting to be checked in at MEL. This would be for QR905, the scheduled 2140 hours MEL - DOH (A380 A7-APC.) This is showing as departing at 2200 hours but that was an underestimate as by 2209, the projected departure had become 2220.

UPDATE: Takeoff of QR905 was at aa52; on Friday 29, DOH arrival is suggested as 0604, 39 minutes late.

Despite A380 A7-APG on QR908 arriving on time into SYD (1845 hours) on Monday 6 November 2017, the return flight, QR909 (due out at 2145 hours) still had not departed by 2245.

UPDATE: Despite the Sydney Airport website showing it as having departed at 2230, QR909 had not done so by 2301 hours.

FURTHER UPDATE: By 2308 hours, the aircraft had begun to taxi. It took off at 2320 hours.

While these large Airbuses are far from the noisiest aircraft and there is the significant issue of 300 - close to 500 passengers depending on the configuration of twin aisle aircraft who would be adversely affected, some local residents might suggest that the SYD curfew exists for a reason. Despite 'the delegate' approving such late takeoffs provided they depart to the south, locals may well not have a unanimous view that such exemptions should be granted.

Anthony Albanese (Labor, Grayndler in the House of Reps.) might not support many of these exemptions: he may well be the next Minister for Transport come 2019.

QR904 from DOH to MEL is normally pretty punctual, but on Thursday 9 November with A380 A7-APE, it is suggested as arriving at 2221 hours rather than 1845. The return flight to DOH will be delayed by a couple of hours in its departure.

UPDATE: QR905 was airborne at 0046 on Friday 10, about two hours late.

During Thursday 23 November's early evening there has been a fair few scattered storms around MEL (and also by the looks of things some other State capitals.)

QR904 (A380 A7-APA) from DOH to MEL had a missed approach from the south at about 1905, so its arrival has become about 1924, 39 minutes late.

UPDATE: QR904 by 1940 hours looked to be diverting northwards, either to CBR if that is possible for an A380, or SYD.

FURTHER UPDATE: QR904 is diverting to SYD with estimated arrival at about 2038 hours.. Hopefully after refuelling (provided crew hours duty limits have not been, or are about to be, exceeded) it might in theory be able to depart from SYD at 2145 or so.

The deviated QR904 (see above) has taken off from SYD on Friday 23 November with A380 A7-APA at 2215 bound for MEL, so the flight tonight ex the latter back to DOH (QR905) will be at least three hours late departing.

UPDATE: QR905, the 2230 hours on Thursday 23 November from MEL to DOH took off at 0145 hours on Friday 24. Arrival should be at 0748 hours, 138 minutes late which in the circumstances is not too bad and again shows the wisdom, where slots are available, of international airlines allowing more than minimum turnaround times in their timetables.

Friday 5 January 2018 sees QR904, the 2100 hours Thursday 4 that took off at 2145 (A380 A7-APB) suggested as arriving at 1922 hours, 37 minutes late.

Wednesday 10 January 2018 saw QR904 (scheduled 2100 hours DOH - MEL, A380 A7-APG) not taking off until 0108 hours on Thursday 11. Arrival will be shortly at 2231 hours, 226 minutes late. QR905, the 2230 hours returning flight should be able to be off blocks at around 0015 on Friday 12 if all goes well.

On Sudnay 25 March 2018, QR908 (A380 A7-APB, the 2015 saturday 24 timetabled DOH - SYD that was airborne at 2056) should arrive at around 1934 hours, 109 minutes late. As the return flight QR909 is not meant to depart until 2200 tonight, it ought be unaffected.
