Qatar Airways Near to Acquiring up to 20% of Virgin Australia

Urgh, can't SIA just come in and swoop up VA - they've been trying for years to have a presence here, but they just keep stuffing around ... this should have happened in the AN days.
SQ had direct financial involvement, stakes and control with Tiger Airways and Virgin Australia 1.0. Both failed massively with huge financial losses.

The ol' "SQ will TAEK OVAH VA !!!1!!" during the Borghetti and early Scurrah eras are largely "Fake News", nothing more than glorified Tyre kickers.

If VA were to switch to Avios, they are as good as in oneworld. At that point, I don't know why QF would want to stay in oneworld.
Not sure why QF are in OneWorld myself. They prefer to play with Emirates so I'm quite happy they go to whatever Emirates FF programme is called..i forget Skywhatever. I actually see QF not really offering much in One world (yea sometimes you can get cheap BA Avios usage on QF domestic but no earning on cheaper QF fares. You don't even get QF biz earning when flying MH on some.fares with Qantas and I'm sure it's the same with others. QF are a con within OneWorld. Quite happy if they go and VA come in frankly.

SkyTeam is the other one. And QF partners with Air France and KLM that are key SkyTeam alliance members also. I believe QF is one of the founding members of oneworld so it is unlikely they'd leave. But the relationship is definitely odd, as you point out the relationship with Emirates, and the disdain of MH, despite QF being their sponsors into oneworld.

Turn to the east… (Americas and to a lesser extent Asia)

It’s certainly where QF is focused. The JV with AA is probably their strongest partnership, and more important than the one with EK. Strong links with AS too.

Air NZ don’t even fly to Europe anymore. It’s all East.

Ah, the airline that punishes you for flying other OW airlines to Asia.

Isn’t the point of a loyalty program to make passengers loyal to your airline?

You’re still free to fly with any oneworld airline and they’ll recognise your QF-earnt oneworld status. Even QR. They’ll treat you quite well, too.

An airline that encourages you to fly with the competitors seems like a pretty bad business model.

I must have missed the announcement that QF started flying to KUL and CMB.
Amazing that other airlines in the alliance can credit flights equally

They do, via SIN and then a QF codeshare onwards.

And equally? QR completely blacklist QF domestic. Pot, this is kettle, come in. Over.

I said other airlines I didn’t say all. QR is being petty too and I don’t agree with it hence why my OW earn all goes to BAEC

BA don’t award equally either.

My OneWorld earning also goes to BA but with regard to Tier Points it's pretty good as you know exactly what you collect with all One World operators and the tier points (for status) are the same regardless of who the one world carrier is ..it's just the number.of Avios points that is reduced if you use other One World operators and not "fly BA metal" . Ofcourse it's different with Qantas as you have to choose Qantas flights and prices carefully and they don't make it easy as we all know as they don't provide the booking class until booked but that's already been well documented! I've never yet seen when looking at flights on Qantas then offering me Iberia or Finnair and I don't think ever Qatar. Occasionally they do offer Malaysian (but that's just my experience). They do however ofcourse offer everything Emirates!!😕

That's not true when it comes to qualifying Tier Status points....

Sure they do. Each airline has different alignments of booking class to fare type (eg Economy lowest, low, flex) and there’s a hell of a lot more of MH codes in the lowest pile compared to BA.

BA puts almost all QF fare classes is Econ Lowest, nothing in low, only YBH in flex.

This is the same method QF uses. It doesn’t explicitly discriminate via carrier (other than QF itself)

Fly MH biz classes with QF FF and you get credits for economy flex despite being in biz cabin, at least once in my experience. Never again!! Credit it (all classes of biz) with BA and you get full business class Tier Points with BA. It's a fact. Done it many times from lowest biz to flex biz. I don't really know about lowest form of Y classes. It's probably far to confusing for me. Anyhow back on track...ready to welcome VA to One World and bye bye Qantas. ,🤭😜

We only fly J and as of yet I haven’t found anything that hasn’t credited satisfactory and that includes domestic Australian flights on QF.
Maybe there is the odd one out but I can honestly say I haven’t come across it yet but I’m only a few years into my BAEC journey so others that use the program more frequently might know of some. For us the bonus is we can choose a port in Asia to/from Australia and no we are going to earn something decent from it no matter which OW airline we use

So might be news to you that a majority of pax fly Y.

Sounds like you’re secretly in love with QF. You basically want an airline that looks and functions just like QF and VA is just not meeting all of your needs.

Sadly for you I don’t think oneworld would be keen on an airline that doesn’t fly long haul or even TT. Plus VA would have to terminate all of its current partners including UA and SQ.

BA got a good run too
Well we like to make sure that QF realise we still exist. it's not all about EK. yo

You did make me laugh about liking QF. Harsh! Awful just awful ...🤭

I don’t think anyone is seriously suggesting VA are ever going to join OW and I’d imagine not a lot changes in that regard at all but hopefully one day QR can increase their stakes
